I am vegetarian and i need help. I'm worried, I have been veg since september 2007 and im not getting the nutrition i need, my doctor said to try carnation instant breakfast, and mix it with my almond milk, but it tastes absolutely horrible with almond milk. i had to try it with cow milk and it tasted good, but i was trying to cut milk out as much as possible. also im kinda short so i have to take kid vitamins and they are chewables and are nasty. can someone please help me out? summer is coming and i will have more time for breakfast. and a final note, im allergic to rice products and they are in a lot of faske ice cream and other stuff, and i dont like tofu or beans. im not really into all that fake meat because i have gotten it in hopes i can acquire a taste but its expensive and i end up never eating it. sorry its long, but i appreciate your help
Can someone please help me with a diet???
This is hard because you are pretty restricted. You need to get a good portion of protien. This is hard for all vegetarians, but it is still managable. Eggs, nuts, and penut butter are all good sources of protien. However, you do not want to eat too many nuts. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. If your not a huge fan, try making smoothies. They can be very filling, and healthy. Just load your blender up with fruit, add any type of juice and maybe some yougart. You don't have to use yougart if your trying to stay away from dairy though.
Reply:how about STOP BEING A VEGETARIAN.
It sounds like you dont like ANY of the big foods vegetarians need. Just eat meat. Price depends on how lean the meat you get is, if you get 4 or 8 percent fat it will be pricy, but thats the best kind. If you get the nasty 72% lean or ground chuck, that will be the cheapest but it literally just has chunks of fat and gristle in it.
Reply:Have you tried soy milk? Vanilla is very good - especially 8th Continent (much better than Silk) - and I like whole milk, better than any of the low-fat ones......
Reply:No.
Reply:The information you are giving us is not enough for us to help you with the right advice. We don't really know what you eat and will be better if you tell us what nutrients your diet is lacking, what did your doctor tell you?
You could easily cover all your vitamin and most minerals needs with a pill supplement. They usually leave out the minerals sodium and chloride but which easily obtained from table salt. Also potassium but it is plentiful in fruit and veg of which you eat plenty I gather.
That still leaves out the minerals calcium, phosphorus and magnesium to be taken care of. Also the essential fats linoleic and linolenic acid. Last but not least is protein.
So where exactly is your problem after using a good multi vitamin/mineral supplement? (By the way if the one you use has to be chewed and tastes bad there are lots of others that can be swallowed whole).
Do you eat cheese, eggs or fish which are high in protein? Fish and walnuts are also high in the essential fatty acids.
