I'm having a small budget wedding. I was thinking of a large candleabra with a sphere like arrangement of carnations...
Are carnations tacky?
How can a flower that is so beautiful and smell so great, be tacky. I love carnations. What is tacky is that people think they have to have a flower that is "in vogue" for their wedding. Go with carnations.....
Reply:after Christian Lacroix runway shows, carnations are thrown at him on stage when he's done with the show. He's a high end fashion designer....

Reply:Tacky %26amp; Cheap, please avoid at all cost,if you cant have good flowers, have NO flowers,
Carnations have been dissed in shows like Sex %26amp; The city, Friends,Will %26amp; Grace e.t.c please avoid
Reply:It's your wedding...if you like them then go with it.
Reply:in my personal opinion, i think carnations are the sorriest excuse for a flower that nature has ever created. however, i may make an acception and get one specific color of them to use as filler between all my other flowers. but arrangements made of only carnations will look cheap and tacky, it'd be much better to get fake flowers that actually look pretty.
Reply:if u like carnations, I say go 4 it.
Reply:Of course not, they are totally beautiful! Besides, they are one of the very few flowers that actually have a great scent! You can get them in a total variety of colours, and some are double-coloured - and they're also quite condusive to colour spraying - if you have to.
Reply:If you are low-budget than there are other ways of getting free flowers for your wedding with a little effort. Call around and see if there are any weddings the same weekend as yours, something just by asking you can pick up the flowers that were used. My friend spent nothing more than the price of gas and had the best flowers I have ever seen. She did however buy her own bouquet. she made 5 car trips to pick up centerpieces and different arangments the day before and those flowers alone cost more than her entire honeymoon. What could it hurt......Also I don't like carnations
Reply:in moderation I really like them, especially the mini ones! Are you talking about doing a ball covered in them? I wouldn't personally do ALL carnations, some would still be fine and you could mix up the sizes, some mini, some regular, etc....but you can get shasta daisies in lots of colors and they come several on a stem and its ussually arond $1 per stem so you could mix those in, and maybe some alstromeria, also an inexpensive flower....greenery is a great way to take up space inexpensively, don't rule it out!
Reply:tacky or cheap
Reply:No they aren't, in fact, they are the January birth flower.
I could never understand the reasoning for expensive floral arrangements at weddings, to me, its like throwing money in the garbage.
Reply:I think the carnations will be fine... but I would suggest adding some roses or more elegant flower to the mix. I'm not saying go overboard or anything, but something else to catch the eye here and there. You can get beautiful roses (18 buds) for like 10 bucks at wal mart. But do what you like, it's your wedding.
Good luck and congrats.
Reply:I do not like carnations.
They are NOT tacky, but they certainly spell CHEAP.
Good luck
Reply:I agree with blunt.... I personally love the pink ones and they last so much longer then other flowers but they are considered cheap.
Poor carnations!!
I have to say I much rather use carnation then fake flowers though!!
Reply:Why would carnations be tacky? Do you like them? If so don't worry about it. It is YOUR wedding. If anyone wants to say anything about it ask them to volounteer to be your "flower committte" and have them worry about getting roses on a budget.
By the way I love carnations myself, only Irises top them.
Reply:I used carnations as filler with roses.
They are less expensive but not tacky.
Reply:I don't think that would be tacky at all. Just use the right colors and make sure they look fresh. There are lots of different types of inexpensive flowers out there. Find out what flowers are in season and you might find that you have alot more options then just carnations.
Reply:for the type of itme you are looking to make, carnations may be one of the best flowers for it. They are inexpensive, large enough to cover and they look good in large quantities like that. Normally I would say no to carnations for weddings - reminds me of high school dances - but for this application it will work nicely.
Reply:I've done weddings before. Try to just use a few, not a full bouquet with them.
Reply:I agree...carnations are cute...it sure beats fake flowers
Reply:I’ve been in the UK for 16 years and I never once got used to carnations or chrysanthemums (traditional ones) were I come from they are considered funeral flowers because they last quite well.
Depending on season you can have real nice stylish arrangements that are reflecting your stylish intentions. Finding what you want and talking to a florist about alternatives for the season someone in your social circle may be able to make the arrangement.
Reply:carnations can be tacky but if used the right way they can be quite elegant,
if you have a certain color scheme you can use carnations and maybe add one or two slightly more expensive flowers to your wedding, just don't spray paint the carnations an odd color, lighter colored carnations seem less tacky to me than say a hot pink or dark purple. there's also varigated carnations which if used with the right colors can really pull off a nice arrangement.
Reply:Weddings in general are tacky. No matter what you do, in ten years you'll be saying "what was I thinking?". Decorate your wedding with what makes you happy - more importantly - with what you can afford. Sounds like you are paying on your own, don't start your new marriage in debt. In a few years you may not remember the flowers but paying off the bill can bring a monthly reminder for some time to come.
Reply:I have to admit, I'm not a fan. However, if you just throw in one or two instead of a whole bunch and use them simply as filler so you can save a little, I don't think it would be too bad. One way to cut your floral budget is to do candle centerpieces instead of floral centerpieces. You can do beautiful things with decorator mirrors and floating candles. Also, the type of arrangement you're describing will be expensive even if you use carnations. If you truly want to cut down on floral costs, do smaller more elegant arrangements and keep to the idea that less is more. Beautiful linens, candlelight, and atmosphere can go a long way. You don't have to do huge flower arrangements to decorate your wedding. In fact, I prefer smaller arrangements to large ones. Most designers will agree that simple and elegant are the best ways to go on a budget versus using cheaper materials to try and create the same effect as their more expensive counterparts. If you truly love carnations (which I doubt you would have asked if they are tacky if you do) then by all means, embrace your vision. But don't think that small budget has to equal "cheap". A little creativity and classic touches can go a long way.
Reply:yea, they're tacky
Reply:Carnations are lovely and available in lots of colors.
Reply:nah, they are nice
Reply:I don't think they are tacky. They are pretty informal though so if that is what you are going for I think there are other options that would give you more bang for the buck.
Email me and I'll help you out. I deal with budget brides all the time, heck I am one!
Reply:I love them %26amp; they smell great! I've seen them at many weddings so no one will know why you've chosen them.
Reply:if you are on a budget, might i suggest fake flowers? you can get pretty ones from joann's (especially with a coupon) and then you can use them to decorate your house after the wedding, that and you can get any kind of flower you want :)
Reply:Carnations are not tackky and neither are daisys. Do what you like and enjoy your day. Money or none.....have a good time and be in love.
Reply:Carnations are a little tacky.
Maybe you can get some lillies for the same price?
Anyway, does not matter. Go with what you can afford and whatever makes you happy.
