I got a breakfast drink thing that you mix with milk, like the carnation instant breakfast but great value, because I couldn't keep anything down and thought the vitamins would be good for the baby. Orginally I only thought of doing this for a few days until I got over this "bug" (at least that what I think it is).
But I got to thinking about it and relized that I don't have much time in the morning as I use to and was wondering if I could drink it my entire pregnancy, just for breakfast. I don't see the harm, but thought I would ask anyway. I go back to the doctor on the 26th and can ask him then!!
Breakfast drinks good during pregnancy..?
Great question, glad you are thinking ahead!
In general, the basic ingredients that go into most nutritional shakes should be acceptable. However, not all breakfast shakes are alike and it is a good idea to check with your MD.
In some cases, shakes contain extra vitamins and minerals. Usually this would be okay, but when you are pregnant... this could be a problem. All that extra stuff might be too much of a good thing for a growing baby.
When you meet with your MD, you might want to bring the nutrition and vitamin information for the shakes and your pre-natal vitamin.
Reply:It should be fine I had the same problem when i was at the beginning of my pregnancy I couldn't hardly eat anything had morning sickness so my doctor told me to drink the carnation breakfast drinks so that way i got the calories i needed and vitamins for the baby and then to try and eat something solid a couple hours later if i felt like i could hold it down. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck.
Reply:I drank Mommy Shakes. They are like Ensure but have vitamins that pregnant women need. It is made by the makers of Ensure. You could call the 800 number on a package to find out where they are sold in your area. They also make Mommy Bars.
Reply:My OB told me to drink Ensure drinks for breakfast while I was pregnant to get extra vitamins and for an energy boost. My favorites was chocolate and strawberry, didn't really care for the vanilla. Good Luck and Congratulations
Reply:It seems okay. If possible, try to incorporate small amounts of fruit with your drink so you can get more nutrients in.
Reply:that's a good source for nutrients a pregnant mother needs.Try adding fruits and make sure you take your prenatal vitamins.
Reply:Just check the amount of vitamins in them. I was drinking the walmart brand of the slim fast diet drink in the morning and my dr. told me not to b/c after drinking that and taking my pre-natal vitamins I would be taking in too much vitamin b something. So just check and make sure you aren't taking in too much of one vitamin between the breakfast drink and your pre-natal vitamins. You could just call your o.b.'s office and ask the nurse, she should be able to tell you right over the phone if it's o.k. Good Luck!
