Dry milk substition for real milk?

my son drinks alot of milk. I want to supplement on gallon a week with a Carnation dry milk mix. Has anyone ever done this?

Dry milk substition for real milk?
That's actually a great way to extend the milk. Make1 gallon of dry and mix the 1 gallon of regular milk 1/2 %26amp; 1/2 with the Carnation. Since dry milk tastes way different, it helps with the flavor, and allows your son more milk to drink.
Reply:Dry milk mix tastes funny to me. I would suggest that you try using it in recipes (mac and cheese, pancakes, anything you use milk for) where the taste won't matter, and letting your son drink the regular milk.

If he's drinking more than the doctor recommends for his age, you might try substituting water for some of his milk
Reply:Why? Is it cheaper? Be happy he drinks milk, a lot of kids don't/won't.
Reply:no i think real milk will be healthier though
Reply:Wont hurt him...healthier because of low fat...make sure it is cold and shake it up...generic or off brand might taste better and cheaper...
Reply:Powdered milk is generally -though not always-low fat milk. This is not appropriate for children under age 2. Of course cow's milk shouldn't be used for children under 1.

You could also just reduce the amount of milk. There is no reason to drink that amount of milk.
Reply:My mother did this when she was pregnant with me because she was drinking so much milk!

I've never tried this with a kid, but I see absolutely no harm in it as long as he is still drinking required servings of whatever milk you buy at store (2%, whole, etc).

The website I gave in 'sources' gives the nutrition facts for that brand. Review that and compare with regular milk.

It also says that Carnations Instant Nonfat milk has 55mg of calcium, where regular nonfat milk has only 20! It seems like the instant would be better than regular nonfat.

"INGREDIENTS: Nonfat Milk, Vitamin A Palmitatie, Vitamin D3". It is only milk and vitamins, just like regular milk but not hydrated. It should be perfectly safe!
Reply:yes you can. its recommended in a book i have about saving money. it won't hurt him! it does taste different though and some people i know make it up and mix it half and half with regular milk. of course your son might think the flavor is okay! just try it and see. i always have it on hand for that and i use it in all the recipes i have that need milk. seems like my children can't get enough of the stuff! have a good one!
