My son is just about to head off to day care and they offer Carnation Good Start formula for free, but we feed him Emfamil at home. Will it be okay for him to go back and forth,(Emfamil at home and Carnation at day care) or should we send Emfamil with him to day care? Have no clue please help me out.
Is switching formula ok?
Hello:
I know that ALOT of people are going to disagree with me when I tell you this, but PLEASE ALWAYS ASK YOUR BABY'S DOCTOR FIRST,before switching his baby formula on him! The reason is because not all babies are the same and SOME babies have really bad reactions to formulas that are different and that they haven't tried before. Your baby's doctor knows his health history the best and it is always a good idea that you talk to your doctor FIRST before starting to switch baby formulas on him.
Some babies are lactose intolerant and they have to drink soy formulas such as Isomil like my daughter had to. I don't care how cheap a formula is,I say that if it's not broke don't fix it and take the cheap way out by buying a cheaper brand of formula. I would stick with the Enfamil and talk to your baby's doctor about what kind of formula would be best for him to have! Good luck and best wishes to you and your sweet little baby! ;-)
Reply:Why don't you think about switching to Good Start instead of switching him back and forth. It costs way less and is just as healthy. It would also be easier then sending Enfamil with him, and easier on his stomach then switching his formula at every other meal. That kind of switching back and forth could be rough on the tummy.
Reply:I wouldn't recommend changing the formula. Some babies tolerate change easily enough but my baby had an allergic reaction. I ran out of her usual Nestle Goodstart while I was traveling so I gave her a bottle of the sample Enfamil I had with me.....she broke out in a rash all over her body! It was quite scary.
Reply:see how he does on it but do not switch back and forth, you should switch at home also, it will save you a lot carnation is a lot less expensive
Reply:i would keep her on enfamil....carnation is cheaper for a reason! my first daughter was put on that stuff and she cried in pain for days...i switched to enfamil and she was fine. so, when i had my son, i put him on enfamil when i stopped breastfeeding and he has never had a problem. i just dont like carnation at all! but, like stated above, check with your baby's dr. first...good luck!
Reply:mmmm, I would either send the enfamil, or let them give him the good start and switch to it at home....and then if it seems like his tummy is not taking to the good start, switch him back to his regular formula.
Reply:If I were you, I'd always use what you use at home. I would not switch brands, it's best to stick with one.
Reply:As long as he is on the milk based Enfamil, I would recomend asking your doctor for a sample can of the Good Start and try it at home first. This way you will know if he does ok with it. Transition slowly by adding a little more Good Start and a little less Enafail every day Untill he is out of Enfamil. Then you can use the Good Start at day care and home, Good Start is actually easier on *most babies tummies than Enafmil, as long as you are comparing apples to apples. If he is on a special kind, like soy, make sure the Good Start is the same, like soy. Just try it at home first, then switch if he is ok. This will be easier on his tummy than switching, and easier on your pocket book as well. Good luck!
Reply:I wouldn't just b/c some babies get bad reactions from switching. I'd just stick to the same formula for your sons sake. If you must though I'd check in w/ your sons doctor just to be safe.
Reply:unless there is a medical reason to keep doing that i would send her emfamil do to the reasons that it can harm the baby's tummy and maybe even give it gas or constipation
Reply:I actually switch formulas all the time.
No problems so far.
Reply:I wouldn't switch formula. If what you have is working for your baby, send it w/ him to daycare and insist they feed him your formula. Switching formulas can really upset a baby's tummy. Good luck!
