What to feed abandoned puppy's?

I know the vet has formula wich is over priced.there must be an alternative.Just like the vet suggested for my cat egg yolk carnation flinstone vitamins and corn syrop.

What to feed abandoned puppy's?
Esbillac is a formula for puppies that comes in a powder form at pet stores and is cheaper than the liquid product.

You might want to consider the esbillac for the first few weeks. How old are the puppies? Have they opened their eyes yet?

I fed a rescue (less than 3 wks old when I got her) on "just born" and would also mix a high quality puppy food into it and make a gruel which she would lick off my finger to start and in about a week she was lapping that from a bowl.

If you are feeding a whole litter I can understand how that get expensive.

A formula I used when I was a kid and bottle fed animals was:

one can evaporated milk to two parts water

egg yolk

pinch of salt

1 tsp Karo Syrup

It was very simple but it worked. I used the same years later when someone was supposed to bring me one puppy to bottle feed because a litter of just born puppies was abandoned at an apt. complex. The maintanence man was supposed to bring me one and then brought the basket of FIVE pups and asked me to pick the one to save. Needless to say I went home with all three. I had also told him I would raise them if he bought the milk supplement. Well he only bought one small can of supplement.

So I used that old formula and it worked.
Reply:Purina Puppy Chow--put warm water and a little powerded milk until soft--has everything in vitamins an mineral's a pup need's !-(whole milk will give them diarrhea)--you have a good heart !!
Reply:milk replacer,, get it from the vet......
Reply:I found this on the below listed site. Good luck with the pups!

"You can purchase pre-made formula from your vet, and outside of the mother's milk it is best, but this formula is cheaper, was designed by U.C. Davis, and provides all the nutrition. It's been used by countless people and gives good results.

l can Carnation evaporated milk ( or some prefer canned goat's milk. many breeders use it instead of evaporated milk, both can be found in the bakery section of your grocery store, use one or the other but not both)add, Equal part of plain unflavored Pedialyte (use in place of water: example, 12 ounces of canned goats milk + 12 ounces of pedialyte, (found in the baby section of your grocery store) plus:

l egg yolk (yellow part only) plus:

l tbl. liquid pectin (found in the bakery section of grocery store, if you can't find this use honey in place of it, same amount, or you may use 1/2 tbl honey and 1/2 tbl liquid pectin.)

NOTE - The Pedialyte can sometimes cause the puppies to start getting constipated when they get to be a few weeks old. If this seems to be, change to bottled water to make the formula. "
Reply:I'm in dog rescue when we have a young litter of puppies without a mother we feed them through a bottle if you go to a pet store they will give you puppy formula the vet's formula is way over-priced don't be fooled pet store is your best bet any more questions just ask!
Reply:You can try Goat Milk. I have raised an abandoned puppy on it and he did fine. Their is a formula on a Collie breeders website that you could try as well. The puppy formula at the vets is way overpriced! If you go to a feed store you can get the same stuff a lot cheaper.
Reply:There are several good milk replacers on the market, available in liquid or powder form (such as Just Born). The ready-mix liquid is more convenient. Be sure the product is engineered for puppies and that it is fresh (some have a short shelf-life). Milk replacers can be found in any pet supplies store, most veterinary clinics, and even in some variety stores. In an emergency or for the short-term, you can make up your own formula from tinned or powdered goat's milk.
Reply:It depends how old they are (whether they're eating solids or not). Your vet should be able to suggest a homemade diet appropriate for them if you can't afford a brand name diet. There're plenty of cheaper variations of puppy food at pet stores.
Reply:When we fostered kittens for a rescue, they had us get the powdered kitten milk at a good pet store. If we were to foster puppies, we were to do the same thing with powdered puppy milk from a good pet store. It's already all made, you just add water (like human baby formula). We fed from a small bottle (they were really little!!), and as they grew and started food, we started by mixing the "milk" with moist baby animal food (which ever species) so they would get used to eating more solid food.

I hope that helps. Thanks for rescuing those little puppies!!!!
