Are Carnations any good for a wedding?

they might be the only fresh flower i can afford in my area, and i was wondering if these could look elegant

Are Carnations any good for a wedding?
Carnations are beautiful. The only problems I see are that they have a very strong smell. If you use them for your centerpieces you don't want a flower that is going to overwhelm people while they are eating. I think it could be done really cute if it wasn't the only flower you used. Depending on when your wedding is you could maybe use carnations as your main flower with another bigger flower to add a little "oomph" to your bouquets. You never know, there are a billion flowers out there if you go to a flower store like HyVee or a place that has a flower shop in the grocery store and talk to them they may be able to find some that are in your price range or a bigger flower that's maybe a little bit more expensive than a carnation but that you'd need less of. Silk flowers are another option. You can find a million different kinds of silk flowers at a local hobby/craft store. If carnation are your favorite flower and you really enjoy them go for it but if you're just doing it for the budget check and recheck all of your options. You'd be surprised what you can find in your price range especially if you are willing to do some of the work yourself. Hope that helps and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
Reply:Mixed with other flowers carnations could be very elegant.

Have you tried Wholesale? Where I live, we have a place called the Strip District. Here they have every kind of vendor (flowers, tee-shirts, food).

You can also try the web. Here is a wholesale site that you could get 200 roses for a little over $200.00 http://www.fiftyflowers.com/product/Whol... (they also have many other flowers too)

If you don't think that you will be able to do your own arrangements, call your florist. They will be able to tell you what will be in season at the time of your wedding. Tell the florist your budget, and see what they come up with.
Reply:I actually love carnations. I think they are so pretty and they last a long time so no worries about them looking soggy by the end of the day. and I have never seen carnations at a funeral so I would disregard that statement someone gave. I used carnations at my wedding as little centerpieces on the food tables (reception was at my parents house so we didnt have guest tables) and it was great, cheap and beautiful. go ahead and use them.
Reply:I happen to love carnations, but maybe that's because it's my birthflower (January). They can be dyed any color, and mix well with other kinds of flowers. If you're not crazy about them, though, price other flowers in your area... you might be surprised at what's available within your budget... my bouquet was sunflowers and local wildflowers, and it was fairly inexpensive.
Reply:They are a pretty flower, very full, readily available year round, they come in many colors or can be dyed easily.

I'm going to have carnations in my wedding bouquets with maybe some other similarly colored flowers (or roses).

ANY flower - put into a nice arrangement - can look elegant.
Reply:I see nothing wrong with carnations. They are very pretty flower and you can get every color of the rainbow. If you use them just glam it up a bit. Have some candles around and use a couple different colors of carnations. I think this is beautiful

Good luck hun!
Reply:I think they are wonderful! They come in a variety of colors - and can also be sprayed - and sizes, too. Regular size can be used for bouquets, with mini carns for boutonnieres and corsages.

Reply:carnations and roses are beautiful together .i think Carnation are a good flower that will last all day and still look nice at the end of the day.you can also dye the carnations to whatever Color you want if, they don't come in the color you want.
Reply:I don't know. my mother always told me they were the flowers of the dead.

Carnations are generally used at funerals and when you go to visit someons grave.

They are pretty flowers, but i just dont associate them with weddings. Why not try tiger lilys or sunflowers?
Reply:carnations are very pretty flowers, done up in a pretty arrangement or vase they would be just fine, but you can talk to a florist they might show you some cheaper flowers you have never even thought of using.
Reply:They can be if you use a lot of them. If you are skimpy with them it won't look so good. Here are some examples of beautiful carnation arrangements.
