Shayne is now 6 weeks old, we started him on Similac Advace with iron after 3 weeks of breastfeeding. He seems to be constipated, couldnt poop for days, and when he did, it seemed very painful. One night he cried for seven hours straight, after that i decided to put him on Enfamil GentleEase Lipil, it seemed to help.. i thought maybe because it had broken down proteins, so after one time fuss with that formula, i decided to try Carnation Good Start... now im not sure if i should have kept him on Enfamil, he started to throw up at night, and only sleep 3 hours at a time.. he'll only eat 1-3 ounces at a feeding, even at night (used to be 5-7 at night) We use gas drops, burp him good and use drop-ins or ventair bottle.. (same nipple, so its not the bottles..) so could it be GoodStart giving him gas and pains? Should i switch back to GentleEase?
i realize every baby different and has unique needs, but if you've had this problem, HELP
Our baby has what seems to be gas.. from formula? Bottle? how can we help him?
My baby had the same problem she is on gentle ease but you are not supposed to keep swithcing the formula it can take a month to get the bad out of the system. apple juice helps with the constipation water it down and warm it up a bit mylacon is great for gas
Reply:First, call your pediatrician, and get his/her advise. Personally, I breast feed my baby, and he still gets gas, but seems to deal with it just fine. Don't keep switching formulas, because that is crazy. Try to stick with one brand of formula. for a few weeks. Remember the baby is only 6 weeks old and is still adjusting to life outside the womb. Babies get fussy alot, and it is not necessarily gas or that they are hungry. My baby was very fussy, and crying alot the first 6 weeks but is now getting more calm as the days go by. He is now 8 weeks old. Some babies poop every day, even a few times a day, some babies go a few days before taking a poop. it's normal. When we first came home with our baby, I was paranoid about his eating habits, and if he had gas, was he eating enough, why does he keep crying??? Just know that your baby is normal, and is going through a very normal period in his development. It is most likely not anything you are or are not doing. Hang in there, and good luck to you. Just enjoy every moment, even the difficult ones.
Reply:You should call the pediatrician and tell him what you have done.
You have switched way too many times and way too often.
The doctor will tell you what you should do.
Reply:My sister has 4 month old twins. She uses GoodStart with DHA and ARA but has to use soy. Both her babies take this formula well and haven't had any problems. Her little boy started getting what seemed to be belly aches so that is when she switched him over to the Soy formula. Her little girl is on the soy because her skin was breaking out and that's what the doctor recommended. I don't know if the Good Start formula is the problem. It sounds like you have switched formula too many times on your little one and his body is having trouble taking to the change. You need to give one formula time to take its affect on his little system. My nephew's gas problems and belly aches didn't die down until he had been switched over to soy for almost 3 weeks or so. I would call the doctor and see what their suggestion is. I wouldn't keep switching formulas on him though. Good luck
Reply:If its gas from the bottles I highly recommend Dr Browns bottles, they have a vent that helps keep the gas from entering the baby. My son uses these and very rarely suffers from gas, 2 times in 6 months.
Reply:There are formulas to help with gas, but talk to your ped. before switching formula
Reply:I have had a sililar thing happen with my first baby......we tried 3 different types of formula and nothing seemed to work.....so we took her to out doc and found out she was lactose.....we had to give her isomil until she was 6 months old then she started to out grow it. Now she is 4 and can have anything..... Hope this will help you a bit. It's hard to watch your baby be uncomfortable, and not know what to do for her!
