Why do people give thumbs down for good answers?

e.g.



Question: Can you name all the colors in a box of crayons?

24 count!

Why do people give thumbs down for good answers?
I know that in the adoption area, people thumbs down people they don't like, no matter what they say. (I get about 7 thumbs down on each question I answer, from the same 7 folks - it is heated over there.)



But, otherwise the possible reasons for thumbs downing a perfectly acceptable answer, bad mood, woke up on the wrong side of the keyboard, their cat ran away, finger slipped (that has happened to me), jealous, wanting to influence the asker in order to be picked best answer, didn't like your avatar, the thumbs downer is a jerk, PMS, they have food poisioning and are cranky, the dog did it, the sky is blue and they don't like it . . . and the list could go on and on.



Really think the thumbs up thumbs down thing is kind of lame, but it really *sniff* hurts my tender feelings. JK

Reply:I agree the crayon question had a good annswer, hell, I couldn't remember all 24 colors. Don't sweat the thumbs down. There are those here that just like to scroll and click. You see good answers getting thumbed down all the time; a lot of answers are opinion, and ppl don't agree all the time.
Reply:I have no idea. I got a bunch of them for telling a girl who thought she might be pregnant to go to the doctor if she's not sure....wouldn't they be a more reliable source than asking people online???



Most people thumbs down me because I answer questions obviously asked by a very conservative person with a very liberal opinion.



I have no idea why anyone would thumbs down your crayons though.
Reply:I think when people have a bad day they just browse around and hit thumbs down on any questions. It seems like there are more and more thumbs down for really good answers. Maybe there jealous that there not that smart.
Reply:some people do it for no good reason, maybe they were jealous that you knew them all, it could be anything. If it happens to you alot I'd make your profile private some trolls might follow you around and thumb down your every question.
Reply:In the example you give here it is such a long answer it was probably given a down thumb to shorten the page from those who answered below it.
