My Rosie has mastitis; the tests are not back from the vet yet, but she is on antibiotics and now her pups have diarreha. Does anyone know if its related? Pups born Oct 2, %26amp; have been seperated since Sunday, the pups were eating ground chicken corn puppy food, water, carnation and corn syrup. Now they are eating ground lamb rice puppy food without corn or wheat, water and have esbilac milk replacer. The 9 pups have had diarreha since this morning, it is the same colour as their previous stool but has the sick odour. This evening Rosie jumped up on the couch with me, which is my signal to pet her, and all of the sudden my thigh felt wet, and Rosie started licking her teat and guess what? We had a major puddle of blood and pus! All the way to the bathroom. After we got cleaned up, Rosie has a gaping quarter sized opening, which she was cleaning too long, so I bound that part up in clean gauze. If anyone can share their knowledge I would sure appreciate it, Thanks
My Rosie has mastitis and now her pups have diarrhea...?
Here is a good article dealing with mastitis.%26gt;%26gt; http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/breedin...
.It could be related, and the vet may need to give the puppies antibiotics as well. However, it is worth a try to get their bowels back to normal...Bring a cup of milk to a 'scald' or barely boil.. skim off the film on top and discard it..Feed the milk to the puppies, warm, 3-4 times per day..Allow them to eat as before, AFTER the milk is given..You didn't tell us what breed, but give the pups each 1/4 to 1/2 cup of warm milk apiece.
Call the vet tomorrow if they still have diarrhia in the morning..
Yes, dogs are usually lactose intolerant, but the film you skimmed off the top IS the lactose..My vet gave this remedy to me many years ago, and it usually helps..Also, skip the karo for a few feedings....You can add a spoon of plain yogurt to thier food, to help digestion.
Reply:YES it's "related"!!
The pups got INFECTED MILK!!!!
Hope that they don't ALL *DIE* from it!
Besides the the DIET change %26amp; being fed TOO RICH a feed!!!
Reply:Mastitis can prove to be very dangerous. If you go to website at http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/breedin... it will explain it quite thoroughly. Take their advice to avoid this again. Have your animal spayed. If you want puppies there are all kinds that noboby wants available at your local pound and in the newspaper.
