Looking for a vegan breakfast drink mix ...?

Before I became vegetarian (now trying to go vegan), I had been drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks every morning for about a year. The only thing is, they contain milk. Does anyone know of any vegan breakfast drinks that I can mix with soy milk, or come prepackaged? I love all the nutrients that Carnation provided. Thanks in advance! :)

Looking for a vegan breakfast drink mix ...?
Hi Heidi, here's a very simple recipe

half a cup of soy milk(vanilla flavored if you like)

Half a cup of strawberries

half a banana

a few ice cubes

and if you want a thicker creamier smoothie add some soy ice cream!

You can alter your smoothies with whatever fruits you like, mangoes, any kind of berries!

It's really good!
Reply:GO FOR THE SMOOTHIE OPTION! They are nice, tasty, and nutritious! Yes, you will have to do a little work instead of just going, but they always taste so darn good!

Buy some frozen fruit to save some cash!

Good luck!
Reply:I saw something on Vegan Essentials the other day called Juvo. It says you can mix it with water, soy milk, or juice. Looks interesting. You might be able to find it at a health store.
Reply:There is something called Vega. http://www.myvega.com/main.asp

I have only found it at wholefoods. Look at www.veganessentials.com. It's quite expensive, but it's a superfood meal replacer. No soy.

Nature's Plus Spirutein is a drink mix, but you have to read the label. Some contain dairy whey and some are soy based. I am not sure of the vitamin sources (Vit D or A can be animal based, but I don't know about this particular company- check the website?) They are at least a little cheaper than Vega.
Reply:there's a drink called chai tea and it's made by naked juice, it's white, if that helps, and it tastes great. it also has a lot protein in it.
Reply:raw red meat from a dead cow
Reply:Here is a link that lists all the Veglife vegan powder mixes. Hope it helps!

Reply:Gee...vegetarian, that's pretty limited.

How about water?
Reply:Go into your backyard and pick some grass, blend it up with water and drink. You will be as vegan as a cow! Keeping in mind if you are a cow! Human beings are Omnivore's.

Humans

Humans are an omnivorous species due to their physiological adaptations to eating a varied diet of vegetation and meat. As with all omnivorous species they are capable of sustaining themselves with diets of just meat or vegetables but both must be carefully managed to avoid health problems (notably anemia with vegetarians and heart disease with those who eat diets made up mostly of meat). The digestive system and dentition of Homo sapiens serve as a prime example of omnivorous adaptations.

Does anyone give their toddler baby formula just because it can't hurt?

My four year old is a picky eater so I "fortify" his milk with it. I give it to my two year old too - just because. Is there anything wrong with this? I also give him Carnation Instant Breakfast and a multi-vitamin.

Does anyone give their toddler baby formula just because it can't hurt?
I'm continuing to give my son formula even though he is past 12 months. The extra nutrients found in formula are still good for the baby since they most likely do not get every nutrient needed from their meals.
Reply:I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but I do think you're wasting your money. Why feed them formula and a vitamin? I give my 18 month old twins Carnation Instant Breakfast in their milk in the morning too! My little boy is really small for his age. He eats like crazy, but he's little, so I just wanted to make sure he's getting everything he should. But I think formula, instant breakfast, and a vitamin is going a bit overboard. I would also check the iron content of everything you're giving them. If this vitamin, and the formula, and the instant breakfast ALL have iron in them, you could be doing more harm than good. Iron poisoning is number one in fatal overdoses in children under the age of six. (I read that off the back of a Flintstones vitamin bottle, that I took while I was pregnant.) I really think one of the three would be sufficient.
Reply:Wasting your money.
Reply:give them vitamins its much cheaper and just as good and make them eat things they dont like they will get less picky as soon a sthey realize your not going to give in to them having what they want all the time
Reply:I'd only be careful of how much sugar he's getting, but it shouldn't be an issue. If it were, they wouldn't be selling PediaSure.

You may be overdosing him on vitamin supplements, however. A single multi-vitamin with C and Iron does the trick, even with picky eaters -- the reason we have vitamins is because people don't eat a balanced diet. If one eats a balanced diet, one doesn't even need multivitamins.

Your pediatrician needs to know so s/he can give you the best recommendation and put your mind at ease.
Reply:My son is 19 months and we still use soy formula because he's lactose intolerant. There are even special formulas for children 12-24 months.

Good luck!
Reply:Some doctors are now recommending formula until at least 18 months and gradual weaning ONLY IF they pass anemia and other blood screenings. So no there is nothing wrong with giving formula, also most breastfed babies continue to nurse until 2-4 years, particularly in other parts of the world.

"Research comparing cow's milk and formula-fed infants during the first year of life has shown that cow's milk is irritating to the intestines of a tiny infant, causing infants to lose a tiny bit of blood in their stools, contributing to iron deficiency anemia. There is very little iron in cow's milk anyway, and the iron that is there is poorly absorbed. Concern about iron-deficiency anemia has led the American Academy of Pediatrics, backed by solid research, to discourage the use of cow's milk in children under one year of age. One of America's top pediatric hematologists (blood specialist), the late Dr. Frank Oski , Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Johns Hopkin University (and co-author of a book entitled: Don't Drink Your Milk) advised parents to be cautious and not rush into the use of cow's milk, even during the second year of life. At present it would seem prudent to continue giving your baby iron-fortified formula during the second year of life and very gradually wean him to dairy products, beginning with yogurt. If your toddler generally has a balanced diet and routine hemoglobin tests show that he is not even close to being anemic, then switch from formula to whole milk sometime during the second year, but don't be in a hurry. Carnations or roses?

Would you rather receive carnations or roses? The roses die in a couple of days. Carnations are all different colors and last a week to two weeks. I got roses for mothers day and it was nice but buy carnations there cheaper and last a lot longer!!!

Carnations or roses?
Roses can come in almost as many colors as carnations do. Also there are many different ways to make roses last almost as long as carnations. First thing is to always, always recut your rose stems at an angle with a sharp knife under cold running water and immediately put them into a vase that contains cold water that already has the powdered extender that comes with the roses dissolved in it. Then every evening put your roses into the refrigerator overnight. Take them out the next day for display, but do not put them in direct sunlight. Trim the stems as detailed above every other day and your roses should last a very long time.

After all that - I love the aroma of carnations, but purple roses are my favorites by a long shot.
Reply:alstromerias. Last longer than either and are prettier.
Reply:Roses.

Carnations are nice, but you said it, they're cheap! Roses are considered better because it's pricier. AND just look at how beautiful roses are in comparison to carnations.
Reply:Tough question. I think Carnations. They smell so good and come in beautiful colors. I like the big fluffy Carnations best rather than the small ones.
Reply:I seen this and passed it by and came back.

Because my daughter just turned 12 in Feb, 2006 i buy her Carnations all the time.

They seem to last a long time with lots of different colors also.*

Family favoite here.
Reply:I love roses but they do die fast unless you have a very cool home. But carnations smell so good and have such a variety, you can enjoy them longer. i think carnations is what i would rather have. Or a mixture, then you can just pull out the dead roses and still have carnations for another week.
Reply:ROSES, long stem, meaning true love
Reply:My Best Beloved always buys me carnations, although I do get the occasional single rose. :) I do prefer carnations...yellow and orangy ones.
Reply:I feel the same way as you, single mom. I have never liked roses because they typically only last a matter of days, whereas carnations last WEEKS. I love roses but in their natural setting.
Reply:well, for me I prefer roses for 2 reasons. 1) roses traditionally mean love and they are romantic and 2) carnations remind me of funerals. So roses win every time for me. But you are right about it being nice getting flowers that last, so why not give someone an indoor plant, or perennial flowers to plant outside or even a rose bush and enjoy them year after year.
Reply:Carnations. Roses make me think of funerals.
Reply:I would much rather get carnations, I think that roses are SO UGLY. But thats just my opinion.
Reply:carnations. Just think all those colours and they are cheap not to expensive.

How would u interpret this poem as moving image?

About His Person

Five pounds fifty in change, exactly,

a library card on its date of expiry.

A postcard stamped,

unwritten, but franked,

a pocket size diary slashed with a pencil

from March twenty-fourth to the first of April.

A brace of keys for a mortise lock,

an analogue watch, self winding, stopped.

A final demand

in his own hand,

a rolled up note of explanation

planted there like a spray carnation

but beheaded, in his fist.

A shopping list.

A givaway photgraph stashed in his wallet,

a kepsake banked in the heart of a locket.

no gold or silver,

but crowning one finger

a ring of white unweathered skin.

That was everything.

Simon Armitage

PS it is about the items the police find on a dead mans body (he commited suicide). do you think if i produce a news report of it like MAN FO4ND DEAD etc and newspaper headlines and ppl laying down flowers and crying and ppl being interviewed and place sealed off with the blue/white police tape etc would be good? what do you think.

How would u interpret this poem as moving image?
If it were me, I'd use very close photography. Never show more than one item on screen at once but at the film goes on, pan the camera out to reveal them all arranged around him in some sort of shape (a heart leaps to mind but whatever takes your fancy) so the viewer knows all these things were part of him, if not on him in your film.
Reply:i suggest you master-bate and rub come in ya eyes!

BIATCHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Reply:Just an idea, why not have short cameos of him "using/creating" each item, and at the end...have someone signing for the bag of "effects" after identifying him?
Reply:Listen to the song "Save Me" by Nickleback and think about how phrasing in the lyrics fit the items. Going with the crime scene image could be very powerful...perhaps do it as an "unwind". Start with a closeup of the police tape and work your way back through the scene as a cop/CSI examines and bags each piece of evidence and then the last image is of the body...or if you want something more evocative, a closeup of the left hand with the ring finger bare and blood pooling beneath the hand and arm.

This is a poem about despair and betrayal. The most tragic line to me: "A giveaway photograph stashed in his wallet, a keepsake banked in the heart of a locket."

How sad that the photo of a complete stranger (the "giveaway photograph that is displayed in new wallets) is what he clings to....

I linked the Nickleback video for you....
Reply:manic depressive try prozac
Reply:I think she left him...maybe the song You'll never walk alone would be a good song...you need a univeral song everyone knows...maybe just music no words.

Evap Milk for fudge?

I am using the carnation brand recipe as I have done many times before but I accidentally picked up the 2% Partly skimmed evap milk by accident instead of the regualr kind which is calls for. Would it still be ok to use?

Evap Milk for fudge?
Yes, as long as the recipe calls for Evaporated milk, not sweetened-condensed milk........two VERY different things. The mix may be a little thin.

LLL says breastfed babies are smarter than formula fed ones?

OK. Well, why do we have nearly and entire generation of intellectual people from the 50's and 60's, most of whom were raised on homemade Carnation formula, who have gone on to be great philosophers, doctors, scientists, inventors, thinkers, and educators?

Do you screen your M.D. before choosing him to see if he was breastfed? If not, and he's a top-ranking surgeon due to operate on you, would you disqualify him and choose Dr. Biibbedyflipp down the road that was breastfed?

Would you yank your child out of her AP biology class after finding out that the teacher was formula fed?

If you found out Picasso drank goats milk most of his babyhood, would it make his work any less beautiful?

Suppose a formula fed kid grows up to be your precious breastfed Timmy's boss or CEO? Oh, Timmy should automatically advance from mail clerk to supervisor because of his infant diet?

My cousin is WAY smarter thn me. I was breastfed, she was formula fed. Has a PHd, I don't. What do I do?

LLL says breastfed babies are smarter than formula fed ones?
The people who preach all the benefits of breastfeeding sometimes surpass anything that resembles common sense or credible data..I remember reading one claim that said breastfeeding could reduce the need for orthodontics.Have these people never heard of genetics? I remember thinking that some supporters of breastfeeding were reducing it to the traveling medicine man of the past (quacks). How do they equate the ability to breastfeed with making you a superior parent.Oh if it were only that simple. These yappies (I didn't spell it wrong) offend anyone with any intelligence. Some of these insecure adults also find it necessary to co-sleep with their babies until they are young children ( into adulthood if they could)and then write Q.%26amp; A. and ask " how do they get the child into their own bed".I always thought that most babies lost the umbilical cord at birth .It seems some people are holding onto it for dear life.
Reply:Yes they are absolutely right..breastfed babies are smarter, cuter, smell better, healthier, tend to be more independent, are bonded more with their mother, get closer contact with their mother, and just plain old better than formula fed babies :)

Oh about the goat's milk..that milk is not better than breastmilk but it's better than formula

And your point? Keep going I'm loving seeing you make yourself a fool..LOL
Reply:It's not guaranteed that breastfed infants will be smarter. What the doctors are saying is that breasfed infants are generally smarter than the formula fed. There are more important advantages to breatfeeding....like the babies immune system. Breastfed infants have much better immune systems than formula fed infants. Also, women are intended to breastfeed! That's why we produce milk.
Reply:I disagree

I have 2 kids,

1 breast fed, very smart yes, but a little sick at times(more than the other)

1 formula fed, and wow, she's always seemed much healthier than the other, and is always in good health,

I think it matters what you want to do, both are just as good..

And with formula, you never have to worry about your diet, and eating the extra calories every day.
Reply:One of the things that I have never seen explored (maybe it has been but I just missed it) is whether there are problems with cause and effect here. Are mothers who are likely to breastfeed more likely to have smarter kids? There is a time commitment that involved and its a lot of work to breastfeed. Are moms who are willing to make the commitment more likely to have smarter kids?

I suspect that kids who are read to and encouraged to read tend to be smarter kids. If you can find a certain type of mom/parent who is more likely to read/encourage reading, you may conclude (incorrectly) that moms/parents of that type are more likely to have smarter kids. There would be a cause and effect problem.

And you cannot look at individual cases as evidence that valid statistics are not valid. There are a lot of variances/variables at play. And all that assumes a valid cause and effect which as I noted, I am not sure is completely the case with breastfeeding and intelligence. At a minimum, I think there are other factors at play that have an impact which go unquantified.
Reply:You can't soley blame being breastfed or formula fed as an excuse as to why you are or are not smart. Alot of that has to do with Genetics too. Maybe your cousin got the smart genes and you didn't. No offense...

The PHD thing....is just as simple as pursing it by furthering your eduction by going to college. You could get it too, if you truly wanted too. It has nothing to do with being breastfed or not.

It is a known fact that breastfeeding helps the brain develop better along with other organs of the body. Formula does the same thing only it's artificially made. Some mothers prefer natural nutrients and the only way to get those, is by doing the natrual thing...breastfeeding.
Reply:they're not smarter they're just more healthy

Reply:I was formula fed and I am an under-achieving SAHM with a messy house. I am overweight (about 50 pounds) with high blood pressure and a perfect candidate for diabetes. My husband was breastfed until he was 3 years old, is very healthy and only slightly overweight (5 or 10 pounds) and has a PhD in robotic engineering.

Does this prove anything? To me it does - I just wanted to give my son the best possible chance in life.
Reply:Not true. My 2 yr. old neice was not brestfeed and she's very smart for her age.
Reply:i was formula fed. i guess you could say im smart. my IQ is 120.
Reply:It's not bull. What you have to understand is that the statistics represent an average, though. On average, breastfeed babies tend to score higher on IQ tests, this has been studied and proven. However, if you look at individuals in either group, you'll find wide variances, that's why you have to have a statistically significant sample and look at the average.

I'm the youngest of four. My older siblings were all breastfed for a year or more and I didn't get a drop of breast milk. One of my breastfed siblings is really smart, but no smarter than me. The other two....well, I'm just grateful they got as much as they did. I like to tease them that they needed the breastmilk just so they could come up to my level.

It was important to me to give my daughter breastmilk for her first year. She's now a very smart, curious, talkative wonderful 2-year old. Do I attribute all of that to breast milk? Definitely not. But maybe parents who are committed to breastfeeding also are more inclined to actively nurture their kids. It takes a big committment to breastfeed a child - it takes a lot of your time, you can't just easily have someone else feed the baby like you can if you use formula. It can be draining, especially if you are working at the same time and have to pump. So, in my opinion, it may also have to do a lot with the fact that parents who are breastfeeding advocates are also very connected parents, and those parents will likely spend more time nurturing and, on average, produce smarter kids. But that's just my opinion.
Reply:I have 2 boys

one formula fed

one breast fed

breastfeeding finishes off the immune system in babies.

they have less ear infections and things like that.

Has nothing to do with how smart you are (not that has been proven anyway)

what's the big deal anyhow?

are you trying to decide what to do?
Reply:I think it was done as a way to encourage some degree of breast feeding
Reply:I breastfed because it is the best thing for a baby. Read a can of formula--IT STATES---BREASTMILK IS BEST FOR BABY. Do you think emfamil would put that on a can if it was a lie.

Why are you against breastfeeding? Studies of thousands of people are conducted to determine the findings. You and your cousin are not a HUGE field test. Maybe she has drive and you don't?
Reply:Seems like you are being pretty defensive here. Calm the hell down!

Don't be so absurd, do your breastfeeding homework. Are you just trying to rationalize the fact that you didn't do the best thing for yours by bottlefeeding?

The stats don't say EVERY breastfed baby is smarter. And it is only through age 15 that the IQ scores are higher. After that it varies.

And having a Ph.D. Doesn't make someone smarter than you. Simply more educated. Your IQ depends solely on you. It can fluctuate depending on how much you learn, and what you do with the knowledge you acquire, there are many mitigating factors.

And who gives you the right to downplay all the benefits of breastfeeding? There is SO much more to it than how smart it makes the child. It is the way we were intended to feed our children. Formula wasn't even introduced until the last century, and we did just fine without it.

The only thing formula did was give American women the ability to be more selfish and lazy, which is exactly what has happened to us.
Reply:Hmmm I was on formula and getting a degree in Paralegal.

My sister was breastfed and is dealing with a Felony on her record consisting of FRAUD! Who's smarter now?!!! LOL

Oh and one more thing, my sister weighs about 250 pounds and only 18 whereas I only weigh 150 pounds since I've just had a baby in June; I'm 27. I never get sick and my sister is always sick thats why she keeps losing her jobs. How's the sour sticky milk now?
Reply:It was probably taken out of context. It is just to give perspective not to judge people who were or weren't breastfed. Most parents want their children to have the best chance possible in life, and LLL probably was putting perspective on it. Scientifically speaking, it is hard to prove anything about intelligence b/c there isn't a universal way of measuring it.

Just a side note-- what do we all think breasts are for?? They have no other purpose than to provide milk for offspring. Cows don't feed soy milk or rice milk to calves, so what reason do we have to believe some plant or other animal species has a baby food more nutritionally superior than what our own bodies make. I just think it's important that we realize that nature does most things better than science can. Even most prescription drugs on the market are a derivative of some natural substance, but you can't put a patent on nature.
Reply:La Leche League doesn't say that....scientific studies do. The IQ boost isn't big, but it has been proven to be there. It has to do with getting the perfect nutrition for brain growth.

The studies say:

Children who were breastfed have I.Q. scores averaging seven to ten points higher than formula-fed infants.

One specific study has found that the average I.Q. of 7 and 8 year old children who had been breastfed as babies was 10 points higher than their artificially fed peers. All of the children involved in this study had been born prematurely and tube fed the human milk, indicating that the milk itself, not the act of breastfeeding, caused this difference in I.Q. level.

Another study to support this statement was done in New Zealand. Here an 18 year longitudinal study of over 1,000 children found that those who were breastfed as infants had both higher intelligence and greater academic achievement than children who were infant-formula fed.

It's important to remember that these numbers represent averages for hundreds of children, not the effect of breastfeeding on a specific individual. So, if you want to raise the intelligence level of an entire generation of children, breastfeeding would be a simple and cost-effective way to do it.

Studies have shown that children who are breastfed get higher grades in school, even after other influences on school performance are taken into account.

The intellectual advantage gained from breastfeeding is greater the longer the baby is breastfed.

So, what do the studies say about WHY breastfed babies have higher IQ's?

There are nutrients in breastmilk that enhance brain growth (DHA and ARA). These ingredients have been added to some formulas now. (But YUCK if you look at how they did it....see link below.)

Another fat needed for optimal brain development. Breastmilk contains a lot of cholesterol, while infant formulas currently contain none. "Low in cholesterol" may be good news for adult diets, but not for babies--cholesterol provides basic components for manufacturing nerve tissue in the growing brain.

DHA, cholesterol, and other breastmilk fats provide the right substances for manufacturing myelin, the fatty sheath that surrounds nerve fibers. Myelin acts as insulation, making it possible for nerves to carry information from one part of the brain or body to another. So important are these brain-building fats, that if mother's diet doesn't provide enough of them for her milk, the breasts can make them on the spot.

Lactose is the main sugar in breastmilk. The body breaks it down into two simpler sugars - glucose and galactose. Galactose is a valuable nutrient for brain tissue development. Anthropologists have demonstrated that the more intelligent species of mammals have greater amounts of lactose in their milk, and human milk contains one of the highest concentrations of lactose of any mammal milk. Cow milk and some cow milk formulas contain lactose, but not as much as human milk. Soy-based and other lactose-free formulas contain no lactose at all, only table sugar and corn syrup.

EDITED TO ADD:

Maybe you have high blood pressure because you are on her stressing about this stuff and trying to pick fights with people.

Maybe it's hereditary or maybe it's your diet.
Reply:LOL you make an excellent point
Reply:Okay, yeah your right about the older babies being smart and they had bottles with formula, but being a mother of 4 kids that were all breastfed, I only did breast-for longer than 6 months/each. What I have been told is that when a baby uses the breast, they have to use their mouths and jaws harder to get the milk to come out. The milk is also healthier, has more protein, vitamins and minerals which are prefect for the brain of a newborn. I'm not suggesting that bottle/formula fed babies are any less smarter than breastfed babies, but I know what I have been told by experts and what I have seen with my own childern.

Don't let anyone tell you that the other is better than the first. You do what is BEST for you and for YOUR baby. Not what is expected from others. That is what I was told by friends and family and I CHOSE to breastfeed. Who's to say that human milk is better than formula. You could bottle feed another Einstein or you could breastfeed another "Forest Gump".

To Kill a Mockingbird?

What are some important items in To Kill a Mockingbird? I have read the book and all I can remember is the white carnation that Mrs Dubose gave to Jem.... and thats about it!

I'm trying to find the chapter with the details about what they found in the tree outside the Radley place... can anyone help?

To Kill a Mockingbird?
Gum, Indian head pennies, spelling contest medal, soap-carving dolls, and broken watch and knife. Sry dont remember the chapters, but they wont be in just one chapter.

What iz the difference in the words Ethnicity and Race?

The month wuz April of 1977 when I first arrived in the Big Apple New York City, my first time in U.S.A. Az I wuz apply'n for social security card, one of the questions on the app: wuz, what Race am I? This wuz a strange question for me, because I grew up to the age of 20 yrs. in a British Colony before arrive'n in the U.S.A. The word race wuz taught to me az to compete az in run'n, cycle'n, car race etc. I had no idea why wuz I asked about compete'n. Fortunately, there wuz a section on the form that states or other. I inspirationally filled in that open space with the words "God's creation". After I turned in the application I wuz told that I answered the question wrong. I found it so confuse'n that in the k'nown greatest Nation in the world U.S.A. that people are labelled az sardiens, corn beef, carnation rose milk, things in cans az black, white, yellow, red, pale face etc. I always taught that Americans were the ethnicity of the Nation not divisional people called race.

What iz the difference in the words Ethnicity and Race?
Race is what someone can determine by merely looking at you: black, white, hispanic, asian,

Ethnicity is specific to your ancestry: mexican, irish, spainard, greek, italian, arabic, lebanese, costa rican, peruvian, portugese, australian, dominican, haitian, cherokee indian, etc. etc.
Reply:Race oftentimes is associated with the colour of ones skin, and the continent of origin. Ethnicity on the other hand, has to do with ones nationality. For example I am of the Black/African race, and my Ethnicity is Nigerian. It is a very controversial topic here in the USA, because it consists primarily of people from multiracial as well as multiethnic backgrounds.
Reply:Ethnicity: African american

Race: Human

Now, some people use the term "race" when they really mean ethnicity, which is what it sounds like happened to you.
Reply:Race is whether you are white, black, brown, or yellow. Any one can be these races. An example would be that you could have an Asian person who's race is black. It is simply the color of your skin even though our government does not always use it in that context. Our government has been known to call Blacks, African Americans as their race. Even though our race is Black, Our Nationality is American, and well basically we have no real ethnicity unless you could call it African I guess even though MOST of us have never been to Africa, know no one in our family that is directly from Africa, and have never even spoke a simple word or learned a simple word in African. Our Ethnicity could be called whatever different cultural differences that our race has but I do not know of any named Ethnicities in the black culture here in America.

Ethnicity is more of your ethnic orgin. An example of Ethnicity would be like someone who is a Siminole Native American.

Nationality is where you are from. An example of someone's nationality would be to say I am from the United States of America or someone who is from Japan. Their nationalities would be either American or Japanese.

Another good example of Ethinicity would be if you lived in Rwanda and your race or color is Black, your nationality is Rwandan and your etnicity is Hutu. You could also live in Rwanda, your race could be black, and your nationality is Rwandan and your ethnicity is Tutsi.

Another example would be that you could be called Hispanic in America as is being your race but your real race would be either white, black, or any other color depending on your color. Your Nationality is American depending on if you were born here, if you were not then it would be lets say Mexican and your ethnicity could be Hispanic.

Hope you understand.

Ps. Don't worry about what you are experiencing here in America when it comes to race, nationality, or ethnicity. It's just the way the world works.

May God be with you.

Flowers the size of roses or calla lilies, but definately NOT roses, calla lilies, daisies or carnations?

I was going to use a bunch of orchids but now I am thinking of carrying just a few stems of something. I want the flowers to be the size of normal roses, but I don't like roses or calla lilies (too typical), daisies (too plain) and carnations (they remind my man of funerals). I would want them to be able to be in white, cream, or blue.

Flowers the size of roses or calla lilies, but definately NOT roses, calla lilies, daisies or carnations?

Reply:Well why don't you try google and type in "long stemmed flowers" or "big flowers long stems" I typed that in and got two different types of flowers right off the bat. I don't know you personally so I have no clue if it's something you would actually like but there are "Gladiolas" and "Dahlias" you can type in those flowers into google and see if they come in any colors you like. I think they come in a bunch of different colors. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for if you just look around a bit.

I'm using Big white Orchids and long stemmed Calla Lily's (think Eva Langorias Bouquet to a "T") and adding a few smaller purple flowers and some Bear Grass. The Calla Lily's are more just for the stems and support but they get hidden behind the Orchids. You could try something like that too if you really like orchids (They are my favorite). You're going to have a hard time finding blue flowers. Have you considered hydrangeas? They're bigger than what you're asking for but if you get ones in blue they have a nice look.

Are roses or carnations toxic to cats?

Here is a comprehensive list of plants which can be potentially dangerous to cats. :)

http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?...

Carnations and roses are not on this list, but you should still call your veterinarian or an agriculture specialist and ask.

;)

Are roses or carnations toxic to cats?
No. I own 3 cats have plants and garden beds with roses and carnations. Cats will only eat certain plants and that is to settle their stomach.
Reply:Christmas Rose is toxic, others not, can't find any info on carnations though, strange..
Reply:nope, not that i am aware of.

there are, however hundreds of plants that are toxic to cats. of course, usually it requires the cats to eat them, and they very rarely do that because most of them dont taste very nice - so dont worry too much if you have one of these in your back yard.

aromatherapy and esstential oils are also toxic to cats.

What does the following mean?

Background:

My little brother-in-law is 8 years old. The other day he bought carnations at the store, not for his mom, but for himself. He also minces when he walks -imagine if you will Hercule Poirot portrayed by David Suchet. At one point he wanted to be a nail technician, now he wants to be a hair-dresser. Just wondering, what does it all mean because it's somewhat funny.

What does the following mean?
It means you don't have to worry about him accidentally knocking a girl up in high school.
Reply:some kids grow out of it-they have phases like that. but seriously he just sounds like a kid who knows what he wants in life and isnt bothered by his mates playing footie or anything so he must be quite confident in himself. he seems to have tapped in to the metrosexual new type of bloke which can only mean that the ladies will fancy him more because he can talk to them about things other lads dont understand. and the attention from the ladies will probly ensure he grows up 'straight' if thats what ur thinkin.
Reply:hes metro......
Reply:Maybe it is just a phase or according to Psychology, he may be having an identity crisis. Maybe he needs a councelor or someone to talk to.
Reply:It sounds like hes very sophisticated and well bred. The only clink is carnations? Yellow and pink roses would have been better, Support him by all means.
Reply:He's gay. 'Better straighten him out while you still can........................................
Reply:I mean no offense by this but my best friend is bi [likes both girls and boys] and he acts just like that.I mean he wants to be a hair style person and all that stuff, so your brother and law might not just like girls.
Reply:He is 8 years old, he really doesn't know what he wants to be. He is not gay. He may be a little feminine but he will probably grow out of it.
Reply:hes only 8, it may just be a phase hes going through. maybe he adores his mom and wants to be like her. nobody can say that he is going to be gay when he is this young, thats just rediculous.
Reply:Don't read stuff into things. Sometimes things are just what they are and don't mean anything.
Reply:He's finna be a future cross dresser...cause that is super nelly
Reply:Not all boys or men that are into horticulture and beauty are gay.....I wouldn't worry about it at this point.
Reply:he is just alittle boy , it may mean nothing , but then again it could mean that he will be gay when he gets older . do not tease him , think of his self asteem
Reply:I think that at 8 years old, he is entitled to be or act like what ever he wants. He is a child, ever heard of role play - If he is gay when he is older so what??!! Let him enjoy his childhood.
Reply:I think that your brother in law might be gay
Reply:well...a lil guy at my church...he loves to clean...he memorizes comercials...obsesses over eztension cords...and he knows every vaccuum cleaner ever created...wierd as urs?..this was a boy you kno!~
Reply:It means that, at the age of 8, this stuff interests him (and that is all it means)
Reply:It could mean nothing, but he sounds very effeminate. My guess is he'd rather play with Barbie than GI Joe, and his favorite Power Ranger is the pink one. Play him a Streisand record, and if he swoons, well, then I guess there's one wedding you won't have to go to, unless he lives in Massachusetts!
Reply:it means that you have brother-in-low and you have a chance to have someone to love you and support you through your life. i would be concern if he is interested into guns!? it is really disgusting how media shapes our views - all stereotypes: the same goes for girls (to be barbies) and for boys (if he is not into cars and sports, he is gay). be yourself and be there for your brother. believe me, you'll meet enough insensitive men in your life
Reply:At 8 years old it means nothing other than those are the things he likes. My 8 year old boy loves the color pink, is an avid baseball player, bug collector, mud thrower and also loves babies. When I asked why a boy would like the color pink so much, he said that God made all the colors, and so if a boy made all the colors, he should be able to like them all. Go figure. He is a very tender spirited boy, with interests in "feminine" things, but I don't think for one second that he is gay. This age is developmentally to young to start making those designations. Leave him alone. If you or the family is worried that he is surrounding himself with activities and choices that are too feminine, try to involve him in other activities too. Play in the mud, hunt for bugs, etc... as well as letting him do nails.
Reply:he might turn out gay but he might just like those sort of things he does have a sister
Reply:Does he have male father figure? If not, it sounds like he is exposed to the femaile more than the male and this all he knows.

I have known this girl for like 3 weeks and want to express my feelings for her on valentines day?

So here is what im thinking... I get her a teddy bear holding two flowers.. one a rose and the other a pink carnation. Then the bear is also holding a valentines day card with the words "Roses are red, carnations are pink... I want to go out with you what do u think?" And at the bottom i write something like dinner at 7? Will this scare the girl away and is it too soon for me to make my move?

I have known this girl for like 3 weeks and want to express my feelings for her on valentines day?
that sounds like a really great idea! I'm sure she would love it! So original and creative! :)

good luck!
Reply:I think that is a wonderful idea. If she's into you, she'll totally jump at this oppurtunity!
Reply:Valentines day is the most romantic day of the year. (Especially for new relationships.) I think it will be ok. Go slowly and don't be too pushy. Hope you have a good Valentines day.
Reply:Man, only 3 weeks and you have feelings for her already? Kinda quick draw you are. Must be lust! Just ask her to dinner, never mind the romantic stuff this soon in the game. At 3 weeks I highly doubt you KNOW her. I'd bet it's more like you only know of her, am I right?
Reply:never hurts to try.
Reply:I think it's great. One thing give her a huge smile and tell her what you really want to tell her(express your feeling).

**-Go get her tiger!!!!
Reply:That is a really sweet idea, but it probably depends how well you know her. If you have become good friends and you would like it to evolve into more, then its a great idea! But if you are pretty much only aquaintences and don't know each other that well, it would best to give it some time first. It really depends on what type of girl she is, and how much you know about her. Some girls may see being a couple after knowing eachother for a short period of time like 3 weeks as moving too fast.

Why aren't flowers fragrant anymore?

Today I walked into a store that had an enormous number of roses, carnations and other formerly intensely fragrant flowers. Unless you were looking at them you'd never have known they were there. On previous Mother's Days nearly my entire house would smell like a rose garden for at least a week. What happened?

Why aren't flowers fragrant anymore?
It has happened because the breeders have bred for looks, longevity and disease resistence....noone cared about the smell!!! You can still find garden roses that are fragrant, but yeah the florist versions are pretty hard to come by. Too bad, isn't it?? The same is true for many fruits and vegetables...the prime example is the Red Delicious apple...looks great, tastes like crap!!
Reply:I asked my florist that same question. she said that the are "breed" to live longer now and that killed the smell!

I know breastfeeding is best!!!but some of us can't.What is the best formula?

My daughter is 3 months and has been on similac sensitive but I changed due to constipation.I was going to try the new carnation good start is it any good?are all formulas the same?

I know breastfeeding is best!!!but some of us can't.What is the best formula?
not all formulas are the same they can be quite different if your baby is constipated u may want to try a low iron formula since iron is known to cause constipation but try to make any swiches to another formula gradually since it may upset babys stomach
Reply:Please do not take advise from anyone giving cow's milk to a child! Cow's milk is not supposed to be introduced until after their first birthday.

If you can't breastfeed or pump to provide breastmilk, then as I understand it (mom-to-be in one month!), you should look for formulas with DHA and Lipil. Unfortunately, there is no formula that comes even close to having all the nutrients of breastmilk (not even cow's milk, which is very hard for babies to digest), but the DHA and Lipil help with brain and sensory development.

I plan to use Enfamil if/when I need to supplement.

Good luck to you!
Reply:Whatever works for your baby. Some are very sensitive and can't digest any formulas but all you can do is try. With my youngest son I tried similac, isomil (which is suppose to be best for sensitive tummies) and carnation goodstart, all failed and by 8 months he was off formula and drinking pediasure (yes i did run it by his Dr first) and 2% milk (couldn't handle whole). My oldest son did ok on Walmarts brand of formula but even he ended up having to be on 2% milk early because he just couldn't do the formula. So I would talk to the Dr about making a switch and give it 2 wks atleast to see if it helps. Each baby is just so different that what works for one won't work for the other. I know my stepbrother could only take goats milk and that was it but that is rare.
Reply:all are basically the same, but some babies tolerate formula better than others. Good starts was fine for my firstborn , my new baby is on enfamil and breast milk.
Reply:not all formulas are the same. my daughter was on Similac..and now she is on Enfamil, which I personally think is better. but in all reality, it just depends on what is best for your daughter. Look into the different brands and try some different ones out. I think we tried 3 or 4 different kinds before we found the one that was best for her. Good luck.
Reply:You just have to try them out all babies bellys are different.. you have to find whats right for baby. thats what happened with me ...i had to switch a few times to.
Reply:My son had to go to Carnation Goodstart because of bloody stools and severe allergy to cows milk and all other formulas (Enfamil Soy, regular and Nutramagin) Nestle Good Start (we used the orange can) worked miracles for us. I was always standoffish about the formula for a long time, then my local pharmacist suggested I try it. Beware though it turns the poopy army green so dont be alarmed when it changes color from the normal yellow.

Good Luck
Reply:You should check with your pediatrician, or course, but my grand daughter has always had Nestle Good Start Soy Formula because she was sensitive to milk products at first. She now eats cheese and many othe milk bii-products but we still use the same Soy formula. It's what she's used to. It works. And you don't mess around with that.
Reply:Find out what your doctor recommends, Every baby is different. I used generic with my second child, my third baby couldn't tolerate the generic. All formulas are closely regulated by the FDA, so generic is a safe choice. (and the generic mixed up with less lumps)
Reply:Well all formulas are not the same. It really depends on why your daughter was on the sensitive formula to begin with. If she has allergies to certain formulas sometimes trial and error is the only way to find out for sure. I suggest that you buy one can at a time of the brand/type that you would like to try, that way if she has any reaction you haven't spent a lot of money on a supply of something that you end up not being able to use. If she has any reaction, you'll know to try something else.

My SIL gives her son Goodstart Soy because he was allergic to everything else. I tried regular Enfamil and my son didn't tolerate it at all - however I tried Enfamil Lipil and he never had any problem with it.
Reply:you should talk to your pedi. she/he will know your baby and formula options best.

i recommend enfamil brand. they have formulas for sensitive babies.
Reply:my pediatrician said dont try too much brand.

coz they're not same.

you better ask your doc.
Reply:I used Isomil for my son he had alot of gas and spit up with other formulas i never tried good start so i can't comment on that one.

I have spiced carnations, and they died on our porch, so I brought them in one is dead, can they be kept for n

I would like to know when a carnation dies if you can cut it back for another year or what can help it to come back, the hot sun here got to it an even though I was watering it still just like dried up, If any one knows if they can be saved , wheather cut back or just throw it out let me know please.

thanks

I have spiced carnations, and they died on our porch, so I brought them in one is dead, can they be kept for n
Hi Old man

If it is indeed dead, it is dead. Without seeing it is hard for me to say, but, if it is not, then I will tell you how to try to revive it.

Yes, cut it back to a height of four inches. Then, give it a dose of liquid fertilizer, such as Peters, available at Lowes, Walmart, etc. Do not keep it wet. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Hopefully, you will begin to see new growth. Cutting it back will force more energy toward the roots, where it is needed.

Best of luck, let me know

How to pinch carnations?

If the carnation is the free-flowering spray-type, pinch-out the stem of the plant immediately above the sixth node - the swollen part of the stem where the leaf pair emerges. At this stage the plant will be about six inches tall. Pinching-out of the main stem will encourage the growth of lateral stems which in turn are themselves pinched at the terminal. The greater the number of terminals, the greater the number of blooms that will be borne.

If carried out over too long a period pinching can delay blooming so it should be done as soon as the leaf pairs have started to form. Also ensure that the plants are staked to encourage straight growth and do this at the time of pinching-out. The stakes (I use thin strips of split cane) should be between 24" high. To support the stems make small hoops about 1" in diameter from thin plastic coated garden wire and bind them to the stakes with twine.

If fewer blooms are required, pinch the main stem when it is about 6" high and then pinch-out the lateral shoots when they reach a length of 4-6". Typically this second pinching is carried out about four weeks after the first.

If you want to extend the flowering period, pinch-out half of the lateral shoots and leave the remainder. By doing this two flowering flushes will be obtained.

Water the plants every 5-7 days or if in pots every 3-5 days.

Good luck.

A poem for women who worry? From a guy's perspective?

Who are you seeking to impress?

Everything looks good on you

The real you

The natural you

Why make a fuss?

You are perfection

In this garden

Who makes the flowers?

Must they all be the same?

For if they were

Would a rose differ from chrysanthemums?

A carnation from a daisy?

You are a sunflower

And your seeds are delicate.

Let not the day end

Where your petals fall like tears

Your womanhood bears the fruit of nations

Generations have come from within thee

Bear not any further pain Mother

Stand proud

Be admired

You are beautiful

You touched a significant point beautifully. As a woman who shares the tendencies described in your poem, it also enlightened me. The entire goal of poetry, other than freeing the authors own personal thoughts, is to effect an audience in a way that they learn from the poem. You have achieved this.

The last three lines could use some strengthening. "stand proud"; perhaps you could redraw the vision of the sunflower as an example.

Overall, I adore this poem.

I wrote advertisment for my company on a catalogue, so could you please help me to correct or make it better?
Hmm, I think that you have included way too much detail for an advertising feature. Obviously, it depends on where your ad is to be placed. If it goes in a general publication, then yes it is way too detailed. If it goes into a specialist journal, it is OK but stilla little wordy.

Ads are to get people interested in your company and it's products. You've got to grab their attention and keep it. Think what the main issues are and stick to them. Is there anything your company does that others don't? Does your company offer better value for money than elsewhere? Do you provide a very high quality service over and above the normal level expected? These are the things that will get you noticed above the others.

Hope this helps! If you did just want the above ad checking over and correcting (grammatically and spelling wise) please feel free to email me!

Mind you, your ad looks ok to me!! although shouldn't it read 'importing' instead of imporiting??
Reply:Hi,

You know it is hard to understand what is a category you aim to. Do you want to sell your company? If you want to sell flowers then I think this advertisement does not work well.

I guess you look for B2B. Then probably you might want to mention a yearly turnover, market share, competitive prices and payment conditions - something what is gonna be good for your buyer/client. But flowers usually grow not produce, maybe I am wrong.

What does the 17th sonnet by pablo neruda really mean, or how do you interpret it?

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,

or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.

I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,

in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms

but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;

thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,

risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.

I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;

so I love you because I know no other way

in which there is no I or you

so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand

so intimate that when you fall asleep it is my eyes that close

What does the 17th sonnet by pablo neruda really mean, or how do you interpret it?
It's almost as if he is saying that he loves this person so much that it isn't as cling-y as a freshly blooming relationship. He doesn't love like you would love a thing like a carnation. He loves intensly like a secret between shadow and soul. It's a natural thing for him to be with this person. That is the only way I can explain it... deeply natural.

Has anyone used carnations as their weding flowers?

Carnations are pretty and they last so well. Roses are nice but they can look so droopy so quickly. Carnations stay nice so long and come in so many colors. I think this will be great. Best wishes on your wedding.

Has anyone used carnations as their weding flowers?
Well I haven't gotten married yet.But I would think that you could use carnations if you want to.I was thinking of useing them in my wedding myself.Let me know how it looks in you're wedding. e-mail me after you're wedding and you get back from you're honeymoon.my e-mail address is Loves2sing4god2002@yahoo.com.I'd love to know how it all turned out with the carnations.Good luck
Reply:I had them in my bouquet, as well as in some corsages and boutonnieres. They stay well, and some smell great.
Reply:I've used silk carnations in arrangements %26amp; bouquets when I did wedding flowers. They aren't quite as popular as they once were. But they make a stunning addition to an arch, those or especially mums....like snowballs.

And I had blue ones arranged on the muff I carried as I had a velvet dress trimmed in fur for my winter wedding.
Reply:Carnations are a popular flower for lower-budget weddings. Its a flower that can be used in larger quanities and looks pretty too.
Reply:my friend used white carnations, i think she is allergic to roses
Reply:i dont know anyone who has used them in their weeding bouquets since the 80s! They are granny flowers!
Reply:My bridesmaids carried them in really tight bouquets of different shades of red. They were really pretty and you couldn't even tell they were carnations.
Reply:My 1st wedding was red roses and white carns. They are a less costly flower and every florist has them, anytime of year. They last a long time and don't lose their pedals. They don't smell bad either.

Should I Buy A Girl Flowers For Valentines?

She Knows I Like Her, But I Don't Know If She Likes Me Back.

At Our School, They Are Selling Roses, And Carnations.

Should I Get Some For Her?

Should I Buy A Girl Flowers For Valentines?
Yes! She will know that someone is thinking of her and it will make her day 100% better!
Reply:Yes, definitely !
Reply:Get her both. Some girls prefer one over the other and the only way you will know is if they tell you. Don't ask her.

Also give her something that won't die.

I've suggested this to a # of teens it may work for you.

A nice photo of you. Signed with some kind of endearment and in a nice but inexpensive frame. Possibly heart shaped from a $ store.

The signature in a Gold Gel pen ( make sure it's dry before you frame it ) adds a touch of Class
Reply:carnations, I wouldn't go all out, especially since you sound like you are in high school, get her a card and the carnations and present them to her on one knee, make sure you look your best though!
Reply:That sounds like a great idea.

Maybe even make her something to go along with them.

Personally, as a girl, i think hand-made gifts are more sincere and have more meaning. :))

Making oatmeal taste better, add apples?brown sugar??

can someone please give me a step by step recipe for making delicious oatmeal, i've been told to use brown sugar, carnation milk, butter, apples, bananas, pancake syrup, cinnamon powder(not all at the same time), please include how much of each item to put in , THANKS!

Making oatmeal taste better, add apples?brown sugar??
I like a number of things in my oatmeal. I like syrup, or brown sugar and cinnimon, peanut butter, jelly, ect. Really whan you think about it the possibilities are endless.
Reply:anything you put in oatmeal is more to your taste, not quantity, put in whatever you like and taste it. honey is also nice poured over oatmeal when its cooked, it adds a nice flavour and is a natural sweetener
Reply:I just cook my oatmeal according to directions on the box and add things "to taste". I like brown sugar and cinnamon. Sometimes I'll add a few raisins or dried cherries. Another good thing to try is those flavored coffee creamers. I like French Vanilla.

Care of carnations, lack of flowers?

no new buds after removing spent flowers.

Care of carnations, lack of flowers?
For continued blooming feed lightly every 6 to 8 weeks with an all-purpose (10-10-10) liquid fertilizer. Cutting side flower shoots will make the central bud grow in a larger flower.

Normally, the Carnation is a hardy perennial, but the garden kinds, or marguerites, are usually treated as annuals. The FORCING KINDS FLOWER ONCE, new plants being grown each year from cuttings.

I don't know where you live ....example people need to know what zone they live in and what the alititude is to give others a shot at the answer.

Don't you think many of the new cultivars(?!) of many traditional flowers are just too "over bred"?

I mean, look any all the plants/flowers catalogues, they have these day lilies that look like orchids, cone flowers that look like carnations, roses that don't look like roses, tulips that look like peonies. Why can't these "frankenstein" plant cultivators just leave nature be?

Don't you think many of the new cultivars(?!) of many traditional flowers are just too "over bred"?
YES.

Exactly. nothing in this world seems natural anymore.. How sad..

I hope my poem helps some for the Virginia Tech victims?

More Flower Orders

They want tulips, roses,

lily of the valley.

They're ordering carnations

and daisies, chrysanthemums too.

I gotta get them there-they need them,

to cover up the grief-

they say it'll be none too soon.

They want sweet william,

to sweeten the pain

that only yesterday wasn't there

They want asters, they want mums-

they want forget-me-nots, and orchids

oh please will it help this despair?

I'll get in my truck

and deliver the goods

these flowers to lay on the lawn

and as I do,

I'll certainly pray

for a griefless, flowerless dawn.

I hope my poem helps some for the Virginia Tech victims?
I think it's beautiful. Thank you.

oatmeal, for dinna? yobigmamma would lose wait AND her will to live
Reply:You need to concentrate less on snacks and more on healthy, balanced meals. Snacks are O.K. but all you had for dinner was oatmeal? If you keep up this routine, it might make you unhealthy. The excercise is all right, though. Maybe switch your snack and dinner, and have a bit more at lunch.

Drugstore brand perfumes- what are some good ones?

I'm looking to explore some decent priced drugstore brand perfumes. If it helps any, I'm not big with anything that's super "fruity" or anything with very very strong vanilla notes to it. I'm looking for something that's sexy, sensual, and maybe just a little bit exotic, yet not too overwhelming or boring- something that will drive the hubby nuts pretty much!

Also if it helps, any one of my favorite fragrances (but it only comes in a fragrance oil ) is described as a "blend of carnation, sandlewood, and musk". My absolute favorite perfume of all time they stopped making probably about ten years ago - it was Victoria Secret's "Victoria".

Any idea on cheap drugstore brands I may like? :)

Drugstore brand perfumes- what are some good ones?
They both have a little vanilla to them, but have you tried Curve Crush or Fire %26amp; Ice? My husband loves them both and they both have a warm, sensual scent. Definitely a cut above your average drugstore scent!!

Also, I don't wear it normally, but my husband also tells me that Vanderbilt is his favorite scent of all time - he once called it "the essence of sex." I find it a bit too strong for your average daily wear, but it does smell nice, kind of powdery sandalwood %26amp; jasmine %26amp; musk all in one.
Reply:Elizabeth Arden Provocative Woman-my husband loves this one (Note: it smells really sweet in the bottle but test it and after about 10 mins it should turn sexy and spicier)

D%26amp;G Light Blue-I think they care the EDT of this in Walgreens

Can you help me on a Algebra 2 problem?

For a weeding, Shereda bought several dozen roses and several dozen carnations. The roses cost $15 per dozen and carnations cost $8 per dozen. Shereda bought total of 17 dozen flowers and paid a total of $192. How many roses did she buy? (please show your work)

Can you help me on a Algebra 2 problem?
R + C = 17

15R + 8C = 192

C = 17 - R

15R + 8(17 - R) = 192

15R - 8R + 136 = 192

7R = 192 - 136 = 56

R = 8

C = 17 - R = 17 - 8 = 9

She bought 9 dozen carnations and 8 dozen roses.
Reply:Simultaneous equations

Roses= R

Carnations= C

R+C=17 (Because u have 17 dozen total)

15R+8C=192 (Dollar cost -15 bucks for roses, 8 for carnations)

So set them against each other and substitute

multiply the top 1 by -8 (to cancel the C's)

-8R-8C=(-136)

15R+8C=192

Combine and cancel

7R=56

R=8, go ahead and plug R back in to the equation

8+C=17

C=9

If you wanna check ur answers, these should work in teh second equation

8(15)+9(8)=192

120+72=192

192=192

So, the answers are right

You have 8 dozen roses and 9 dozen carnations
Reply:r + c = 17

so r = 17 - c

15r + 8c = 192

15(17 - c) + 8c = 192

255 - 15c + 8c = 192

-7c = -63

c = 9 dozen carnations

r = 17 - c = 8 dozen roses
Reply:R+C=17

15R+8C=192

SOLVE FOR ONE OF THE LETTERS

R=17-C PLUG IT IN FOR "R"

15(17-C)+8C=192

255-15C+8C=192 ADD OR SUBTRACT LIKE TERMS

-7C= -63

C= -63/-7 ??C=9 PLUG THIS FOR "C"

R=17-C??R=17-9= R=8 C=9

Do you think can milk is a good replacement for butter for instant potatoes?

its carnation milk

Do you think can milk is a good replacement for butter for instant potatoes?
Actually....that doesn't sound like a good replacement. I think it would taste kinda weird...
Reply:Yes in fact thats what I use all of the time
Reply:No, use olive oil.

Who is the idiot with the thumbs down?
Reply:OK... Girl why are you using Instant taters? Carnation is great to use but........ WHY? Crazy to use instant taters when REAL potato's are so easy. REAL taters are as easy as boiling, and remember the vitamins in eating real food? If you have children that's important.
Reply:I am going to have to say no. You'd be better off just adding extra milk, at least that's what I do. :-)
Reply:powder could be good, but it will add a sweet taste, i use liquid milk, and they come out so soft...hmmm...you gave me my third side dish for dinner .....excellent
Reply:you can do it, but no. Potatoes want some butter.

Butter makes it better

Reply:No....eww.
Reply:No way man, that just doesn't sound taste, keep the old recipes
Reply:use sour cream saturated fat
Reply:yes---but margarine would be better,
Reply:yes!!!!!!! u can use that or low fast sour cream
Reply:why not its creamy n less fattening n been around a long time also.evap is a substitute in many recipes.chow 4 now good luck.Mella
Reply:I use butter AND milk. Yum :)
Reply:Try "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" in the spray bottle. This way there is no fat and no calories and no sodium.

Otherwise, in the tub, it is too fatty.

I use the spray all the time.
Reply:You can also use sour cream or cheese. Milk could be a replacement but not very successful
Reply:reg milk. like 2%

i dont think carnation milk would taste so good

but warm 2% milk would make it creamier

hope it works ok
Reply:I prefer doing my own spuds and mash them with butter and milk.

You will need to be careful, as too much milk will make them sloppy.

How do i dry my boquet of white roses and pink carnations fast without drying medium?

Hang them upside down from a clothesline outside. If you are in hot weather, even better for drying the flowers. If you want to dry just a single flower, press it between the pages of a heavy book with cloth to absorb the moisture.

How do i dry my boquet of white roses and pink carnations fast without drying medium?
wrap a string around the stems and hang upside down
Reply:Air Drying is the most common method of preserving roses.

This method is best for rose buds that are just about to open. Hang them in a warm, dry and dark place with good ventilation for a two weeks. Tie a string around the stems and hang them upside down. This will prevent moisture from becoming trapped between the flowers which can mold them.

Once they are completely dried be careful to handle them with care for they will now be brittle.

Display them tightly in a terracotta pot for the wonderful display.

Desiccant drying

This method is perfect for open roses.

You will need an airtight container that measures 1 inch taller than the roses you are drying and silica gel crystals (enough to completely cover your roses -standing on end) If you would prefer to save on silica gel crystals you can cut the stems shorter.

Put 1/2 inch of Silica Gel in an airtight container -place the roses so that the blooms face up.

Cover them very carefully with more silica gel crystals until every part of the flower is covered. Now seal the container tightly. Keep them at room temperature for 10 days before removing the lid of the container. After 10 days carefully remove them from the desiccant.
Reply:you can hang them upside down and spray hairspray on them

one year my husband sent me flowers to work(really no big deal as far as gifts go)but he had them take out all the carnations and replace them with tulips(my favorite flower) and in stead of a vase they were placed in a coffee mug(I am a huge coffee hound).

Anybody has info about the psychiatry hospital in Portugal wich was left by medical stuff in 1974?

It was said that psychiatry hospital in Portugal was abandoned by medical personnel during the Carnation Revolution in 1974? And when the personnel came back they found out that the patients took the authority and the management of the hospital was even better than before. Any information on this event will be useful. Thank you in advance.

I love her, and Valentine's Day is the day to show it, but how can I? What can I do?

I've loved her since last summer, and I want to tell the world. I don't know her feelings, but she might like me. I want to give her flowers for Valentine's Day, but I have some problems.

a) My school sends flowers to girls at other schools, but not hers. Anything I get her she won't recieve on the 14th. Is there a florist who delievers to schools?

b) What kind of flora do I give her? rose, carnations, or something else?

c) Poetry? Too tacky?

d) We had a fight a little while ago, and just made amends. Is this coming too strong too soon?

e) Will she think it's romantic, desparate, creepy, or whatever else runs throguh girls minds?

I love her so, and want to show it. But with these problems in the way, it looks difficult. Please help!

Talk to your local florist

Roses

Poetry isn't too tacky

No it's not too soon

Probably romantic, but if she doesn't like you she'll still think it's sweet
Reply:1. you should ask your florist

2. no it isn't to tacky. we love it when we get something special from a guy!

3. no, it's never to soon to show her how much you love her.

4. if she loves you she'll think it's romantic, if she likes you but not loves you she'll think it's sweet, and if she dosent like you then she'll think of it as wonderful. either way she'll appreciate it.

How many cc/ml of milk substance should i give to a 1 day old kitten?
Call up your local veterinarian or Petsmart/Petco and ask them. This also may be better off in the Pets section.
Reply:The best advice is to consult a veterinarian.

DO NOT USE REGULAR MILK or eggs, carnation, etc. You need K.M.R. or a similar milk substitute.

See: http://cats.about.com/cs/kittencare/ht/b...

and http://www.safehavenforcats.com/newborn....

You need about 3ccs, but the proper feeding technique is very complicated and you should seek the advice of a veterinarian.
Reply:First of all why is the kitten away from its mother. You need to at least call a vet for advice.
Reply:I don't know the answer to that, you need to phone a vet.

What i will say is that if there is ANY way possible of getting this kitten back to momma cat, do it, please, its very important.

Can you write an amusing paragraph or 2 or more that includes these VINTAGE song titles?

1. A white sports coat and a pink carnation.

2. At the hop.

3. Party doll.

4. The Ballad of Davy Crockett

5. Chantilly lace

6. That'll be the day

Can you write an amusing paragraph or 2 or more that includes these VINTAGE song titles?
It was 1965. I was taking my girlfriend, Carol Sue, to the dance after the big football game against Clay Center. I wore a white sport coat and a pink carnation, and thought I looked pretty slick. The dance was in the old school gym, because they didn't want us fouling up the floor in the newer gym. One of the scores of local garage bands was playing at the hop. This one was Maureen and the Marksmen, led by Maureen, who fronted the band with a saxophone, and could do the splits while she played. Their theme song was "Land of a Thousand Dances." They did a creditable job, although they were all white Catholics. My date, Carol Sue, looked like a party doll. She had hairsprayed her beehive to death, so that when we slow danced and I held my cheek tenderly against her, it felt like I was leaning against a brick wall. Carol Sue was dressed pretty modestly, a sweater over her white blouse with a pixie collar of chantilly lace. I belonged to the nerd crowd, and my friend Don Lambert laughingly suggested that we request the band to play The Ballad of Davy Crockett. I talked him out of it. At the end of the evening, I took Carol Sue home, receiving a chaste, dry kiss at the front door. "Call me," she said. "That'll be the day," I thought.
Reply:at the hop, he escorted the party doll to the dance floor. her in chantilly lace and he in a white sports coat and pink carnation, they tripped the light fantastic to "the ballad of davey crockett". he asked her if she would go bungee jumping with him after the dance and she laughed, saying "that'll be the day". he thought she was chicken, but in actuality, she found base diving more fun.
Reply:Lisa stepped into her pickup truck wearing a white sprots coat and a pink carnation. She was on the phone wiht her friend Sam who's birthday will be comming up in 5 days. Lisa says, That will be the day when you're party theme will be The Ballad of Davy Crockett. Lisa pulled up and was at the hop. She went inside and did her favorite dance the Chantilly Lace. Everybody thought she was a party doll.
Reply:So, my party doll, Chantilly Lace, and I were bopping and stepping to the tune of The Ballad of Davy Crockett, at the hop. I was fashionably dressed in a white sports coat and a pink carnation, while she was wearing her bobby sox and poodle skirt combination.

Judy and Johnny were there too, with Johnny looking like an angry caveman.

My girl's pony tail and pretty face whirled and twisted and twisted again in front of me. I thought I was getting boogie fever.

Overcome with emotion, taking me over, I got down on my knee, opened the little jewel box, and showed her this diamond ring.

"Oh Shantilly, please go all the way!" I cried.

"That'll be the day," she replied, grabbing a drink and dumping it onto my long beautiful hair.

Then Hayden Panettiere walked into the room. Then I only had eyes for... You get the picture?
Reply:It was my senior year in high school. I was at the hop, wearing a white sports coat %26amp; a pink carnation. My gf, Betty was at my side, looking like a party doll dressed in Chantilly lace.

Can you add to my new weight loss / beauty regimen?

I started out at 257 pounds (5"7") on 04/28. I'm now 248 on 05/08. I have been walking on my treadmill 3-4 times a day for 25-30 minutes at different speeds. Sometimes between 2.3-2.9 mph, sometimes just a straight 2.6 mph.

Sometimes I swing my 3 pound weights as I stride, other times I just carry 8 or 10 pound weights at my side as I walk on the treadmill.

I am having a vanilla Carnation Instant Breakfast in the morning and a meat %26amp; veggie Lean Cuisine (no pasta) for lunch. Then a sensible dinner. If we have spaghetti I don't have the garlic bread, if we have tacos I don't put sour cream on it etc..

To help keep my skin from looking like a shar-pei I have been using a Mary Kay granulated buffing cream %26amp; netted sponge every time in the shower and then I follow with a Mary Kay anti-aging firming body cream. I tried to find shea butter at Target but the ingredients start out with water and other stuff....

What else can I do to help me lose weight, build muscle and make my butt NOT FLAT?!

Can you add to my new weight loss / beauty regimen?
In today's society, people spend countless hours and endless amounts of money attempting to slow down the natural aging process. But what can we really do to keep aging from taking over our bodies, our appearance and our minds? The answer is the anti aging diet. The anti aging diet is loaded with all the recommended components to keep us looking and feeling young in addition to helping fight off disease.

The anti aging diet is based on three premises:

1) Increase intake of antioxidants

2) Eliminate or significantly decrease sugar intake

3) Implementing portion control

Antioxidants are classified as a group of vitamins (C, E, and A), minerals, and amino

acids. Antioxidants help to deactivate certain particles called free radicals. Free radicals

are byproducts created by exposure to various environmental toxins such as; smoke,

pollution and radiation. If left to thrive in the body they can cause damage to cells which accelerates the aging process and could ultimately lead to disease. Eliminating sugar is a tough task but can make a huge difference in the aging process as well. When following the anti aging diet it is important to keep refined sugar intake to an absolute minimum. It can be replaced with natural fruit sugar to help satisfy any cravings. It is important, however, to choose fruits low on the glycemic index.

Low glycemic fruits will have less natural sugar thereby resulting in slower absorption and also contain more fiber and antioxidants.

ANTI AGING FRUITS

Blueberries

Gogi berries

Kiwi

Raspberries

Cantaloupe

Citrus fruits

Peaches

Pomegranate

As we age our metabolism slows resulting in a decrease physiological need for calories each day. Therefore portion control is an important part of the anti aging diet. The more nutrient rich your meal the smaller your portion of food will need to be. When attempting to determine portion sizes of the macronutrients there are some simple guidelines to follow. The best way to measure the proper serving size of protein is to choose a portion that is about the size of the palm of your hand. Next, choose a nutrient rich carbohydrate. When choosing a good carbohydrate try to steer clear of white carbs and pick carbohydrates that have deep color to them, as these carbs tend to be more nutritious. Finally, choose a good source of fat. Healthy fats will be found naturally in foods such as vegetable oils, nuts and certain fish. Attempt to stay clear of animal fats found in red meat as well as butter.

Use the following list as a guide for anti aging macronutrients:

ANTI AGING SOURCES OF PROTEIN

Fish: salmon, halibut, cod, haddock

Poultry: turkey, chicken, lean pork

Meat: occasional lean cuts

Soy products

Egg whites, low fat dairy products

ANTI AGING CARBOHYDRATES

Asparagus Beans/legumes

Broccoli Green beans

Leafy greens Whole grains

Spinach Orange colored squash

Tomatoes Bell peppers

ANTI AGING FATS RICH IN OMEGA-3 AND OMEGA-6

Avocado Flax seed

Olives and olive oil Nuts

Omega-3 are found in fish. Choose fresh wild caught fish. Best choice: salmon.

Omega-6 best sources are corn oil, soybean oil, safflower oil, and sunflower oil.

You can also choose to supplement your essential fatty acids. This is especially important for those who do not eat fish.

In order to pull all these nutrients together to create an anti aging diet choose foods from each list at each meal. Making sure to start with your appropriate portion of protein, then 1-2 cups of fruits and/or veggies, or ? cup of grains from the list and finally your fats. For fats use 2tsp to 1T of oil, 1/8 of an avocado, or a small hand full of nuts or seeds. It is a good idea to vary these foods as much as possible to get all the necessary benefits.

This sample anti aging diet is just a suggestion to give you an idea of how to put it all together. You need to determine your own portions for accurate calorie requirements.

Reply:First off, congratulations on taking a step towards a healthier lifestyle. You will never regret that.... =-)

I would definitely keep the cardio in your day, and make sure that you increase resistance levels as you increase stamina.

Make sure that you eat a good amount of lean protein so that your muscles can rebuild after you work out. Also, make sure that you take at least one day off per week to ensure that your body can recuperate. (i.e. workout M-Sa, Su off)....

For strength training if you cant go to a gym, try doing lunges and for a rounded firm butt, do fire hydrants (Id try to explain these, but I think you'd be better off googling them)...Also, I would do some basic situps and pushups.

After I shower I like to put Baby oil on my skin because it makes it really moist. Also, you can put vaseline under your eyes and in any spots prone to wrinkling every night before bed to minimize ageing skin...

Also, drink tons of water, that is sooo good for your skin...

Your beauty regimen sounds great....

I hope any of this helps!
