My baby is 14 dys old and she has colic and has bad gas. What bottles and formula are good for babies w/this?

This is my first child, my husband and I are thinking we need to change her formula and bottles. Now we are using imfamil lipil w/iron, and bottles are using vent air. We have used Dr Brown's, confeti playtex. I really want her to feel better, using the gas drops are not working. She seams that she is not happy with the formula. I heard that Carnation good start is a great formula to use. Please help

This sounds crazy, but go to a good chiropractor - it helped my baby.
Reply:we just talked to our doctor cus our 8 week old had horrible gas and the gas drops didnt help. we also use vent air bottles but we put our little one on similac isomil advance with iron. it is milk free and lactose free and has helped a great deal! Report It
Reply:I had the same problem when my baby was about your baby's age. She was using imfamil lipil w/iron also. We switched her to imfamil lipil gentalease. It sloved the problem! Hope this helps...good luck.

Reply:Try using Nursoy brand formula. Both my children had gas and digestion issues until we switched to this soy based formula. This may also help with the colic.
Reply:You have to order them on line but I swear by the Doc Brown feeding system. they have a whole setup look it up on line and you won't be disappointed I have used it with 2 of my four kids and the little one I nanny for.
Reply:try to give her lacto free formula I have a grandson just like that and he is now 3 months old but he had colic ever since he was born go figure things happen for a reason they started him on the same formula and then when we took him to the dr they changed his formula to lacto free lipil anyways good luck hope your baby gets over it. I know it took 1and 1/2 months for my grandson to get over his.
Reply:I switched right away to "Avent" bottles it was magic how soon it stopped the colic.

Just remember it won't last forever and be patient.

Reply:If shes only 14 days old PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not switch her formula without speaking to your doctor. All of us are well meaning, and will give the best advice we can, things that have worked for us but while reading answers I'v never seen an MD after anyones name. A couple of suggestions from me:



Place baby in carseat, place carseat on dryer, stand in front of carseat and turn dryer on after baby eats



Mylicon drops (anti gas)



Hylands colic tablets if you can fnd them at a health food store or local pharmacy



We used Johnson and Johnson bottles that had a bent neck (I don't remember what they were called it was 11 years ago



Also try to keep baby awake and upright for a few minutes after eating

My son had colic the first 4 months of his life and by the time he grew out of it I was a nut case and choose right then and there to have no more babies.



I tried everything......(I was breast feeding as well.) and nothing I tried worked.



Carnation worked a bit better but still not totally.



I would take him to the doctor. I took my bundle of joy to the doctor and told him either he gives him something for Colic or give me something (Prozac or something lol)



The Doctor gave him some green syrup and for the life of me I can't remember what it was but it worked.

Reply:I don't think the kind of formula matters much, just as long as you stay on the same one, and don't switch around.



Use bottles that let the air escape, like tilted bottles or airtight plastic liners. Also, make sure your baby is calm while feeding her so that she is not swallowing air through having the hiccups or being upset. And burp her a lot.
Reply:My daughter had severe colic, although hers started around six weeks, and lasted about six weeks. We used the Playtex bottles with liners and switched to Carnation Good Start and it worked very well. She stayed on it until she was 10 months, and then switched to whole milk. Gas drops really didn't help much. Try laying her on her tummy across your lap and rubbing her back. The pressure sometimes helps release the gas.

changed formulas. It work I gave him soy formula.
Reply:the vent air are the best bottles. thet reduce the amount of air. talk to the babyes doctor before changing her formula. the doctor can explain the best way to switch them and what would be best for her
Reply:a real godsend is gripewater, it saved all of us, and we even went on to have more children
Reply:I nursed my first two kids - and the second one had colic so bad that she kept us up nearly all night. It usually resolves itself around 3 - 4 months. But iron is usually the culprit and I have no idea why they insist on putting it in a baby's formula. My pediatrician tried my youngest [she had a terrible time - throwing up and diarrhea] on Soylac, which was ok, but she couldn't take it once she started on solids. In trying to find something that worked, I had to resort to barley water for a few days, then added half milk. Worked like a charm - she was healthy as all get out. Sometimes the old time simple things are best. It was my mother's suggestion - and I'm glad she clued me in. There's so much junk in baby formulas now that a lot of babies just cannot digest the stuff.
Reply:Both of my boys had colic, and we used Vent Aire bottles with them. With my older son, we used Enfamil Nutramigen (costs double what regular Enfamil does, but it WORKED!) and with my second son, we used Carnation Good Start. It worked well too, but not as well as the Nutramigen.
Reply:u could try that but my baby when she had that i just gave her tea ''baby calm''........and it did the job...........i don;t know if u can find it in the area that u live..........
Reply:Well I breastfeed mainly. But sometimes we use formula. I use Similac. They have one called Alimentum. It's meant for baby's with colic, it starts helping in less than 3 days. I would also suggest continueing to use the vent air bottles. Something else you can try for colic is called Gripe Water. We had to get it from a medicine shop. Or you could purchase it online. Another thing to do for gas is a bag of rice. Get a small bag and place it inside a tub sock. Then place it in the microwave just long enough to make it warm. Then place it on her little tummy. Tummy massages hep too. And so do leg push ups.



that's about all I know. My daughter seemed colicky but was at a different age. She was 3 months. We just started feeding her baby food sometimes. I wish lyou the of luck. I know how rough it is.
Reply:My son wasn't considered to be "colic" but he did have digestive issues with regular formula. He was terrible with the gas the first 2 weeks or so of life, and we went through 3 different formula's before finally sticking with Nutramigen. It's more expensive, but it did the trick. The proteins in Nutramigen are broken down more so it's easier to digest. And yes, it's true what another person said that iron is the main culprit. We used the Vent Air bottles and thought maybe a different bottle would be better, but found it didn't matter about the bottle.
Reply:The person above me is right, none of us are drs but we are trying to help. I do agree that you shouldn't change the baby's formula without consulting with your dr. My son had very bad gas when he was born also. He only got it from the formua that I was supplementing my breastmilk with. We tried Similac Alimentum and Enfamil Nutramigen both of which are formulas where the lactose is already broken down so it is easier to digest. Neither of these worked for him. We eventually settled on Enfamil Gentlease. I hope you find some relief for her soon.
Reply:I thank God my baby wasn't like this. I feel for you cuz it's hard enough w/o it. Anyways I would try Advance Similac with Iron. It says on the can for spit ups and gassy babies. It's a soy based milk. It's a red can. I would try this. Also if the stool of you baby is really hard try giving her an extra oz of water w/formula. This will help you pass things better.
