My one year old doesn't drink milk, what can I do?

I only breastfeed her before bed time and maybe once during the day. I've tried formula, carnation, whole powder milk, I added strawberry nesquick, ovaltine, warm, cold, everything but she won't drink it. She wheighs 18 lbs.

My one year old doesn't drink milk, what can I do?
My daughter was the same way. When she was a baby, she was on formula, but when it came time to put her on whole milk...she wouldn't drink it. So I started buying her foods that had lots of calcium, that I knew she would eat. Like cheese..and the gerber graduates stuff...she just would never drink milk. She is now 3 and has just started drinking milk..lol. She will mainly drink it onlt when I add the nesquik chocolate syrup to it...I only put a little of it in the mil..just to give it some taste.

But if your child is accustomed to drinking breast milk...then you may have to wean him from it....try pumping some milk, and putting it in a bottle...or cup...whichever she prefers....try starting out putting like a third regular milk and the rest breast milk...and do that for maybe a week...then keep decreasing the amount of breast milk, until your with just regular milk.

We are trying this with my 1 year old...it is working!...lol. With my 3 year old...she was on formula until she was 18 months!...lol..so I was determined with my 1 year old...I wasn't going to let her do that...lol.

So just try gradually changing her from breast milk or whole milk....and if she won't have that either...just try to get her little snack foods that have alot of calcium. You can also give her the little flinstone's vitamins...(or other kinds...lol)..for her age, you would give a 1/2.

Good Luck! :)
Reply:Keep nursing. At least 2 years is recommended. She doesn't need additional milk. If you are concerned about her weight or she is losing weight see the doctor.
Reply:Nothing. My oldest son hates milk and I never forced to drink it, he is a healthy child and has had no ill effects of not drinking milk. I did of course make sure that he ate healthy foods and thankfully he loves carrot juice.
Reply:Have you tried any nestle strawberry/chocolate/banana flavors to add to the milk, my kids loved it moreso than regular milk.
Reply:try some ensure.
Reply:Sometimes an infant doesn't drink milk because it hurts their stomach. Have you tried soy milk? I to think that you should try that if you haven't allready or go to the pediatrition. I personally think that 1 year old is to old to be breastfeeding still, but it drinks breast milk? Try bottling your breast milk, maybe start adding less and less breast milk and more regular milk to the bottle over a week or 2. But your best idea with an infant is when in dought call a pediatrition.

Good Luck
Reply:Yeah, beekiss really nailed this one. Your gonna need alternate sources of calcium.
Reply:you do not have to have milk to survive...i never drank milk once my mom took my bottle from me ...just find other things with the same things in it ..talk to your doc if you are still upset but she will be fine ...i would continue to offer it in case she changes her mind but do not try to force her to drink it...one more thing ..if she likes cheese don't let her have too much of it ...it can cause severe constipation in small children
Reply:I would try just supplimenting with calcium tablets to make sure she gets enough calcium/ Make meals with Cheese and try yogurt. That way she still gets the same nutrients.
Reply:try soy milk, or orange juice with added calcium
Reply:Talk to your pediatrician. There are lots of foods that have calcium. Sounds like you're going to have to get creative.
Reply:maybe shes lacose intollerant. try goat milk.
Reply:shove it down his throat
Reply:She may not want to drink it because it bothers her tummy. This is quite common. Talk to your doctor about a milk substitute.
Reply:does she like orange juice? Buy the orange juice with calcium in it!
Reply:be the boss
Reply:I would suggest that you speak with her doctor regarding that issue, if you already have and have not found a solution, I would say for you to just make sure you're giving her a vitamin that provides the proper amount of calcium that she needs daily.
Reply:try to put chocalte in it , or u can take a half of a banana and add some milk and some chocalte in a blender with some sugar and try to give to her /him my son loves it
Reply:have you tried some soy milk? My daughter was allergic to milk and wouldn't drink it at all!!! I didn't know she was allergic until she gave in one day and drank some she ended up with the runs and a massive rash that wouldn't go away. She loved the soy milk and now they have different flavors too. Its worth a try.

good luck friend
Reply:Give her something else like apple juice %26amp; water
Reply:Ask the doctor. You could also try yogurt, cheese, or a supplement of some kind like a vitamin or Pediasure. Then again, it might not even be necessary at all. Nursing twice a day might possibly provide her enough calcium, assuming you're getting enough.
