Pumpkin pie w/o the works?
Personally, I don't like the spicy taste of the cloves or allspice in pumpkin pie but you can't really eliminate the cinnamon, nutmeg or vanilla. I'd run out and purchase them if you want a tasty pie. If you eliminate the allspice and cloves do increase the cinnamon and nutmeg. Although I thought I hated pumpkin pie, bread and muffins I discovered by accident that it's the cloves and allspice I dislike. I think many people have that reaction. I now make everything from scratch and love all of it.
Reply:GARLIC IN PUMPKIN PIE DOESN'T SOUTH GOOD. I THINK YOU COULD USE ALL SPICE THAT HAS A LITTLE OF ALL I THINK . USE THE SUGAR ,PUMPKIN PIE CAN, THE PUMPKIN PIE CAN MIGHT HAVE ALL THE SPICES IN IT. READ ON THE CAN THE INGREDIENTS
Reply:You could get by with just maple syrup ... but you said "other spice." What sort of spices do you have on hand?

Excuse me, maybe you weren't thinking for a moment, but garlic never goes into a sweet pie.

Merry Christmas!
Reply:I am assuming that you don't have Pumpkin Pie Spice, which is a mix of all the spices you'd usually put in the pie. But do you have Apple Pie Spice? That works very well. Cinnamon is, IMHO, a necessity. If you don't want to run out and buy cinnamon, you could try allspice, nutmeg, and ginger, equal amounts of each to replace the cinnamon. Personally, I don't like cloves for anything except spiced peaches. I wouldn't use garlic in a pumpkin pie on a bet!.
