Do you think carnations have much of an aroma?

I personally don't think so.

Some people think they have a strong aroma, yet they think roses have no aroma.

To me, roses have a very strong and lovely fragrance.

Do you think carnations have much of an aroma?
Carnations have a pretty light scent, but you have to get closer to them to appreciate it. Roses, to me, fill a room with their scent- as you said, lovely fragrance.

But the best.. Hyacinths! -- Now THAT is Spring and Freshness.

Aren't they all wonderful!!!!
Reply:My mother and I both are quite the gardeners. We discovered this year that the carnations and roses with the strongest scents are the ones that have not been crossbread as much or not at all. The so called hybrid types are less fragrant. If you can smell a flower from a few feet away then more than likely it has not been all that domesticated.
Reply:Some do , some don't . I've found that the dark red (almost black), and deep purple varieties tend to be very fragrant. The scent is a heavy, musky sweet smell, with a lot of clove . (same as the spice)
Reply:Roses are definitely strong. I've never smelled a scent from a carnation, but I've only smelled grocery store, refridgerated carnations. Maybe that's the reason for the people who think roses don't smell.
Reply:One of my favorite smells in the world is a bouquet of fresh cut carnations. The smell is subtle but distinct... reminiscent of cloves but 'airier'.
Reply:There are carnations, and there are carnations. The old spice pink varieties, like the Mrs. Bath pinks, are very fragrant. Some of the new hybrids have no smell at all. They have bred them for size and color, and just like some of the roses, have bred the scent right out of them.
