How can I make Carnations last longer in water?

What should I add to the water, how should I trim the stems? What type of room temperature do carnations last longest in? What is the longest time a Carnation can last for? etc...

Also trim the stems at a angle, about 50-60 degrees. This will maximize the surface level of the cut part of the stem to aid in water absorption.
Reply:You can prolong life by adding a little bit of table sugar to the water. Be sure to keep the temp at about 65-68F ( if possible ).
Reply:Here are 2 more ways to preserve cut flowers

1. Mix 2 teaspoon of medicinal mouthwash in a gallon of tepid water.

2. mix a can of clear soft drink (not diet) into a gallon of water.

The acid helps to preserve.
