What are the indicators of a cut flower dying?

By dying, I mean the stage where the cut flower has degraded to a point when it is no longer visually appealing and beautiful, and so the owner throws it away.

I know some examples are wilting, petals falling off etc, but this is for a science experiment, so I need some definite evidence that a cut flower's vase life has ended.

I am using White Carnations.

THANKS A LOT GUYS!

What are the indicators of a cut flower dying?
Cut flowers might be dying when they are no longer 'drinking' the water, so the water changes a little - it thickens and has a difficult and strange smell. Of course, you can change it, and the flowers might come back a little, but the water will not stay like that for as long as before.
Reply:Hmm.

The petals of the carnations have started to turn brown

The stem of the carnations is kinda slimy even though you have changed the water

The petals drop off the plant

The stems start to droop over the edge of the vase

The stem of the flower is paler green or brown, rather than a fresh, vibrant dark green.

How to keep curls in
