What do white carnations mean?

does it have a secret meaning?

What do white carnations mean?
Sweet and Lovely, Innocence, Pure Love, Woman's Good Luck Gift (according to Teleflora a floral wire service)
Reply:Modern- Carnation (white) -Sweet and lovely; innocence; pure love; woman's good luck gift

According to the New Universal Dictionary, 1937, Matters of Interest and Utility, The Language of the Flowers, a white carnation means ‘disdain’- a feeling of contempt for someone or something regarded as unworthy or inferior.

However, there are several rules applied to the language of the flowers. If a flower is offered reversed, its significance is changed and the opposite must be inferred. ‘Yes’ is implied by touching the flower with the lips; ‘no’ by pinching off a petal and throwing it away. ‘I am’ is implied by a laurel leaf twined around the nosegay (posy); ‘I have’ by an ivy leaf folded together. ‘I offer you’ by a leaf of Virginia creeper. A full blown rose placed over two buds signifies ‘secrecy’.

These messages were sent using flowers many years ago, when young ladies and young gentlemen were not meant to show or imply passion and the secret language developed to convey these feelings secretly.

If your friend meant the older, less flattering interpretation, I am sure he wouldn't still be around, constantly buying flowers for you! If he intends any hidden meaning, it would, I am sure be the newer, more flattering one.
