Using "filler flowers" in a wedding. What tips can you give me?

I remember coming across an article in some wedding magazine where brides made centerpieces %26amp; other wedding flowers out of "filler flowers". Things like carnations, baby's breathe, and other flowers that could be bought in grocery stores were used. Do you have tips on doing this, or know of an article talking about this?? Or do you know of websites that could help? Thanks so much in advance! I am desperately trying to save money on my wedding flowers.

You can make carnations look like peonies (REALLY expensive) by wiring 4-6 of them together.

You could also order your flowers offline?

Have you ever thought about

www.fiftyflowers.com

The have a package 200 roses for 209 dollars.

Also there is a website with an even better deal

http://flowersandfreshness.com/b2b/index...

They offer 200 roses for 169.

Also, there is a new wedding trend of just doing baby's breath arrangement. This can be pretty if done right and your wedding has the appropiate theme... other wise it just looks cheap.

Other cheap things you could use is fruit... or you could get some vases fill them with water and fill them with a few stems of something slightly more expensive.

Make it your own.
Reply:It depends on how many of these filler flowers you're going to want, but there's a site that I'm going to use for my wedding flowers (I'm making the bouquets and centerpieces to cut the cost). They have a lot of different flowers in different colors and are pretty cheap.

And they sell by the case or the bunch, so you can decide how many you want.

As far as doing it, I would just look at the arrangements and see where a flower or two could be used. It all depends on the flowers that you're using as your main. Roses and Carnations work well together, as well as Lillies and Roses, Daisies and Carnations.

This might help. I would search Google and try to find some ideas on how to arrange flowers then work from there.
Reply:ask your friends who are gardeners..........they are usually happy to share........things are blooming like crazy right now. find out what your regions flowers are and use them.......if you're in the south, find some gardenia bushes......they have beautiful leaves and blooms......put them in glass bowls.......if you're from the northeast like I am then go for the evergreen hedges and put them in dishes with a few carnations or daisys clipped short spaced out thru the bowl.....think outside the box and start looking around in yards.. most people who will be at your wedding would be happy to help in some way, so delegate, maybe they have a friend or relative who has flowerbeds....... most of all, relax and enjoy this beautiful time! good luck to you and may God bless your marriage!
Reply:"filler flowers" are flowers that "fill" a bqt. some are nice some are cheap looking. I myself...HATE babies breath. Are you talking about using them in your bqt. or on the tables?

If your doing this to add to your bqt., DON'T!!! Do simple, classic. Dz. white roses, hand tied w/ little greenery.

If you need something for your tables to be inexpensive... do a nice 6" flowering plant in a basket w/o handle w/ moss.

(plants like...indoor azaleas, begonias, mini rose etc.)

good luck
Reply:You mentioned wanting to save money on your flowers. Have you considered using silk/artificial flowers? It is much more affordable and you can keep your bouquet. That is what we are doing for ALL of our flowers. :)

Good Luck! :)

Reply:I always say that hydrangeas are the best flower, hands down! They come in big bunches, gorgeous colors, and have very sturdy stems.
