When u bake a cake from the box, have u substituted water for anything else?

I wanna try putting some carnation milk instead of the water. Will that work???

When u bake a cake from the box, have u substituted water for anything else?
I've substituted apple juice and grape juice and cranberry juice for the water in white and yellow cakes;

In chocolate, I've substituted coffee for the water and the coffee helps bring out the flavor of the chocolate even better....

A friend of mine uses beer and cheese (shredded Cheddar) when making a packaged quick bread and it comes out tasting great.......Enjoy!!!

Reply:no sorry...you need the ingredients for the cake to bake and rise
Reply:I have used milk and it worked out fine- tasted somewhat better!
Reply:It probably will work but I usually use buttermilk, it actually makes the cake alittle moister. . .
Reply:Yes.... sometimes I mix up the liquid I put into my cakes instead of water.... like some types of juices and whatnot... they turn out pretty well.
Reply:mushroom soup works very well too.
Reply:if you sub milk for water, expect it to brown a bit more than it would w/ water.

But if making a pineapple upside down cake, I use the juice from the p/a in teh cake mix instead of water.
Reply:i used milk but never carnation
Reply:Absolutely. The cake doesn't contain any yeast so its not like you have to add warm water for it to rise. You can absolutely add milk instead of water. In fact, I think the cake will be more creamy and tasty. In fact, most cake recipes call for milk instead of water. Water is used when making things that aren't sweet such as pizza dough
Reply:i put pinapple juice in, turned out the same but with a hinting pinapple taste
Reply:No, not carnation but you can use any milk or half and half. Carnation makes the cake very sticky and too moist.

.
Reply:i used coco water and it was ok. a little flat but good
Reply:I wouldnt put Carnation Milk.

Reply:Yes, I think so, but why? It doesn't do anything to the flavor of the cake.
Reply:Yes, it will probably work. When I have used a box cake to make pineapple upside down cake, I have substituted pineapple juice for the water. I don't see why you couldn't substitute the milk.
