Do any of you plant carnations? Does a lot of "grass like" plants grow around them and take over the garden?

My carnations usually come back year after year, but this is the first year I have noticed grass (weeds?) taking over the whole garden. We have had lots of rain lately, so that could account for it. But I'm just wondering if this is a normal part of the carnation plant?

Thanks!

I DONT THINK ITS THE CARNATIONS. THE GRASS-WEED STUFF IS POSSIBLY GRASS ROOTS GROWING UNDER THE EDGING AND SPREADING INTO YOUR GARDEN OR WHEN GRASS GOES TO SEED IT COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO THE SOIL AND GROWN. ITS SNEAKY THAT WAY. A LOT OF RAIN WILL GIVE IT A REASON TO LIVE AND MAKE YOUR LIFE MISERABLE. YOU CAN PUT A LOT OF MULCH TO HELP KEEP IT OUT AFTER YOU HAND WEED IT OUT.
Reply:SORRY, MY COMPUTER IS OLD AND NOT WORKING...DON'T HAVE THE MULA FOR A NEW ONE YET. I DO SEE A LOT OF OTHERS DO THAT SO I DIDN'T REALIZE IT. I'M REALLY NOT YELLING, I PROMISE! HA! ANYWAY.... THANK YOU FOR THE POINTS! Report It
Reply:Your carnations should be blooming or at least forming buds by now.

My guess is you had an annual variety that was reseeding or a perennial that simply didn't make it and need to replace it with new plants:

The Grasslike plants you describe may well be crabgrass--famous for choking out everything including perennials and new seedlings:

Reply:Not that I know of. I think the excess rain carries the weeds into the garden. Try edging out your garden with sunken bricks or landscape edging. That should help!
